PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

Problem is it’s probably gonna be their only new game in the gen and to me it’s waste for that to be another Horizon (to me). Also you can’t compare between two generations, Killzone could do well today, never know, the thing with that game is that it’s still unfulfilled potential, 3 got close to great FPS, so a new one on new hardware could finally get it to a really strong fps IP.

Perhaps but im the opposite of you. Guerrilla was never of any interest to me until Horizon. Same with Sucker Punch until Tsushima. I was very happy when they moved on from Killzone and Infamous.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Horizon 3 release in early 2028 and then by 2032, a new IP for PlayStation 6. I will be surprised if Horizon goes past 3 games because the story is leading to the next game concluding it.

PS3 Infamous was meh, but Second Son was quite fun.

I played First Light which wasn’t bad and even though I completed it, it didn’t grab me like Tsushima did. Super hyped for Yotei!!!

Based on their last few shows I wouldn’t be getting excited about this (if true).

Oh it’s PS, and I don’t have one (yet) so trust me, I won’t get too excited, haha.

It would be nice though if this is a showcase, to see something tangible from the actual Sony studios.

I’m actually thinking sooner for Horizon 3 as they can re-use assets, so maybe late 2026 / 2027?

Might be good news for you if so

But then the new IP will require a lot more new assets to be created plus it’s more work to try different approaches etc rather than sequels where you’ve still got a general direction - so I’d agree with the 2032 date for the new IP, I doubt it’d come any sooner than that and possibly even longer if Sony don’t find a way to cut down ballooning development times and budgets (like all AAA games atm)

Yeah, maybe. Depends on when they started on Horizon 3. They did have the Burning Shores expansion in Spring 2023 so that might have pushed back the third game. If it’s sooner rather than later, that would be great for me. Hehe.

New IP would require a lot more money and time which is why I can see it being at around the halfway point of the PlayStation 6 generation.

I’ve long said I’d kill for a Vita 2.0, and if Sony plans on taking the Nintendo/Xbox approach, I think even Sony would manage to support something that’s not a mainline device for more than 18 months lol.

That said, anyone expecting a portable PS5 - with all those pesky physics and all the additional low-profile work devs would have to when they can’t defy the laws of physics - are fooling themselves. I also expect it last in the bunch because of those aforementioned reasons. Would be nice if the media would do the most basic of research into the very industry they cover… a basic level of tech and dev knowledge should be absorbed by occupational osmosis, and frankly it’s impressive how little they have lol.

I was recently clearing out some old boxes and found my PSP, I couldn’t find the charger and the battery was dead but I’m very tempted to order a replacement and see what it’s like in 2024 :stuck_out_tongue:.

It’s still great! Especially, if you managed to have one of the progressive screens (the 3000 model if I recall, I have a 2000). Still love my vita too  Use it weekly.

Agreed. VRR and 120hz mode are makes the current gen special and are real game changers over the last gen

I know the Xbox One X supported VRR but it was very limited. Still think people are a little harsh over the graphics on the current gen a little. Playing games on my Xbox One is a little painful these days with the low res really showing up and the terrible load times

Just browsing through one of the PS5 Pro’s threads on other era and I see the Sony fanboys are attacking Digital Foundry for making the Pro look bad. You can’t make this stuff up, i.e. people splunk 800 euros on a digital only console, it has visual problems in some big games with PSSR causing shimmering and whatnot… and when DF make videos highlighting the problem in order to get these issues addressed by Sony and the devs… the fanboys attack them for making their favorite corpo look bad.

That sort of behavior really sours me on the video game industry. I can sympathize with DF and PS5 Pro consumers who aren’t happy with their purchase so far because I had some similar problems with the Xbox One X which were never addressed, namely the fact the Halo Master Chief Collection and Halo 2 Anniversary in particular ran horribly on the upgraded mid gen refresh and was never fixed.

Fanboys are such a drain on this industry.

Lol they attack Digital Foundry for comparisons that make PlayStation look bad, but if a DF video shows a few pixels / frames better on PS5 over XSX they practically throw a parade and tell us all how DF are the experts…

I personally don’t care too much about comparison videos as I’m only playing it on one platform so what do I care how it looks on a different one? But agreed, for those who’ve spent that much money on a “Pro” console, I’d be expecting bugs to be fixed and for it to look considerably better (not worse) so it’s right that DF highlights it

I imagine for PS1 and PSP? It’s probably worth it just for that, I know most of that even runs natively, not emulation, which is cool.

I feel bad for DF because literally everyone accuses them of being fanboys and biased shills, even PC gamers sometimes :joy:

Here, I thought you were saying he had passed away with that verbiage… beyond glad that he’s just retiring. He’ll be greatly missed though, was a super nice dude and has such a positive energy.

Edit: forgot to edit after seeing he was just leaving Sony and not retiring. 31 years though is an absolutely incredible run. Wish the best for him.
