Not a great show and was more impressed with the remasters of both the Lunars and Soul Reaver games which I hope are also coming out on the Xbox.
They are =)
Just saw on Twitter than the Lunar series is coming. Great news
It just hit me:
If you want to explore Pro for Horizon 1, you must pay the upgrade. Pretty sleazy there.
Puts into perspective how chill it was of MS/Xbox to just give the upgrade patches for free for several games during One X.
For every game of theirs, including the Series optimizations FTFY.
The sheer greed of Sony should be a constant story, but we all know why it’s not.
Besides F1 '24 in which the improvements were noticeable without zooming 100x looking at those upgrades I seriously can’t understand how the PS5 Pro can seriously justify it’s existence at those prices…I just don’t get it. Also the fact that in the last generation we saw how big of a leap One X (and PS4 Pro but to a much lesser extent) was as a mid-gen upgrade definitely doesn’t help and actually makes PS5 Pro look even more pointless and unnecessary.
Oliver saying how “impressive” or how “significant” some of those barely noticeable/worth talking about (at least to me) enhancements looked made this video even more weird.
Yeah, Im just finishing up now.
Im of two minds about it. F1 24 shows me there is some juice to be squeezed there and for upcoming games moving forward there might be some nice looking improvements.
The rest of the stuff I was struggling to see a meaningful difference. But I feel like a lot of that is the fact they are selling this thing on tacking on some basic support on old titles.
It might be worth buying one at some point, but in the right now when its launching, there isnt a whole lot there.
About F1 '24 in particular the question is were those improvements only possible on the Pro due to the bigger GPU or are those general improvements to their engine on the console side as a whole (due to better optimization/engine upgrade e.t.c.) that are maybe expected to hit base consoles too in the next game? I guess next year’s F1 game will be the answer to that.
The only sure thing is that this console and this kind of a mid-gen upgrade isn’t for me…I just can’t see how those enhancements are worth those prices man, I just can’t.
They were mostly all RT features for F1, so yeah, you aren’t getting all that on the base model. Overall it’s a pro console and it has very specific areas of improvement and it’s not going to be worlds of difference, but those specific areas can be better. RT being one of those. Any game that focuses on those specific feature will have noticeable results. The value of those things is naturally debatable.
And noone should expect anything near even middle of the road RTX levels here. Just decent improvement for a console.
Another important note, mind you: Im still not buying one.

Someone give that person a bubble shield. He’s going to need it.
I am going to try to snag one of those PS1 dualsense controllers though.
Oh I forgot about the Series ones yeah.
Yep, MS definitely deserves more credit and praise for that.
And sure, Horizon was given for free by Sony wasn’t it? Wasn’t it part of a group of games they gave away, until they stopped with that? However that only applies to people that benefited from that. If I were to get a PS5 now I have to buy Horizon and then another ten bucks for Pro, right? Lol.
Pro looks like a very good 60 FPS machine, thanks to the jump from FSR to PSSR it seems it can easily “convert” PS5’s fidelity modes into performance one, even getting visual upgrades too in the way.
But on the first party side, since Sony’s studios have almost infinite resources, pretty much none of them use FSR, so the difference isn’t important at all since all their games look solid even on performance mode, maybe in the future? but so far it’s all about converting the 30 FPS mode into 60, normally losing a bit of visual quality.
For someone who only plays Sony’s titles it doesn’t look that good, for someone who wants to play every kind of game like Alan Wake, Dragons Dogma, Cyberpunk etc, the jump looks important
Ah yes, agreed here, should have said i was talking about non-CPU bound games, i don’t expect these that can only run at 30 FPS on actual consoles, to run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro unless it uses it’s extra GPU power to use Frame Gen, but without dedicated hardware for that and coming from low FPS, that would only be useful for PR tbh…
PS5 consoles sale dropped another 2,000 in Japan. Maybe TGS could help them to persuade them to come back to them. That is if Zelda game doesn’t take the spotlight away.
