PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

This is fake news. Only Xbox gets big name leaving.

But seriously, wish him the best and the studio. Shame the potential was never fully realized.

Interesting…

The DualSense is epic.

Playing The Last of Us Part 1 atm and this is so immersive I can’t even… When you feel a truck driving by, or the flashlight starts flickering and you shake the controller to get it working again or just the how you feel the rain… This is so damn good.

The game is so damn good too. Jfc

Im the complete opposite. I find the controller gimmicky and adds nothing to the experience on top of having awful battery life. The controller itself is fine and nice to use, but I don’t get immersed by shaking in my hands and thin tinny audio coming out of a 2cent speaker. And I cant really stand being forced to shake my controller to turn the flashlight back on. Its more annoying than immersive.

I realize its a me thing, but there is no part of my brain that feels shaking in my hands and equates it to rain or a truck driving by.

But the haptics and whatever are fine, its not like I find them intrusive, I just don’t miss them if I don’t have them.

The triggers on the other hand I absolutely hate and could be the worst controller gimmick of all time.

I realize a lot of this stuff is going to get copied whether I like it or not, as long as I can turn it all off Ill be fine.

Agree, try playing Astros playroom and you will really see what the haptics can do. Really can’t wait to play FF16 and see they do with it

I think the haptics sound incredible & I’m nerdy enough to want those resistant triggers… but one thing I can absolutely do without is the “shake controller” gameplay mechanism. One of my favorite PS4 games last gen was by far Detroit Become Human. Hank, Connor & co were just so well written & the gameplay was top notch, except for the moments when I had to rotate the controller in my hands.

It’s ridiculous & I hated it. I also hated the sixaxis dualshock 3 when they wanted me to shake it about whilst playing Ratchet & Clank way back on the PS3. On top of that I find the controller audio on the PS4 so gimmicky it’s not even funny, like it’s so low quality who even thinks this sounds good? It’s distracting, almost like holding a toy in my hands.

It’s one of the first things I did with the PS4, i.e. turn the controller audio right off.

Really? I’m also playing the last of us part 1 and didn’t notice much with the haptics. I’m 3 hours or so in, but personally i feel it is a bit of a gimmick… that said the controller feel definitely has improved from the ps4.

Amazingly coincidence.

That’s fine, we all experience things differently. I am what I’d like to call an immersive gamer and when a game does these things it allows me to sink deeper into the immersion. (That’s why I find horror games terrifying for example  )

Also, as far as I could tell you can turn most things off?

Yeah, see I tried that when I got the PS5 but it didn’t do much for me. No immersion to speak of to really sell the point of it. Whilst 15 minutes into TLOU I was sold.

Some things are definitely more gimmicky than others. Also, I don’t want all these things in game-y games where they just get in the way. But for the immersive games, yes please.

Really. For the record I hated the DS4. It was a piece of cheap plastic shit that gave me cramps.

I really think Xbox should make a new controller with some of these features. They would make something even better I’m sure.

I saw that poll thread in reset last week.

I think even Microsoft a couple of years ago asked some Xbox players about haptics, so IMO (just my opinion) it’s something we’re going to get on Xbox within the next 3, 4 years at the latest. Now that third party devs are supporting features like adaptive triggers they’ll become the norm in the console landscape just like basic rumble back in the old days.

And aren’t we due another Elite Xbox controller soon? The first one came out in 2015, the second in 2019… so if there’s a time to implement haptics as an option for this current gen, it could be with an Elite Series 3 Xbox controller.

That article had an… interesting way to describe that poll haha.

I think a Series 3 controller could be a good thing to start with some of these features but it shouldn’t be locked behind that price tag. Paying that much for things that are standard on the PS? Nah.

To be clear, I do appreciate them trying new things. Its cool that they tried to move things forward even if it didnt resonate with me the way I had hoped.

I think Haptics are a no brainer in the new iteration of Xbox controllers.

Even my IPhone from 2018 has them lol.

I am a little bit surprised Xbox slept on this tbh. They are always “controllers, controllers, new color, new color” etc. etc. They love selling controllers.

Well, to be fair, I think one of the things they have established is that there are not hard cutoffs for the ecosystem. With that philosophy, and some degree of hardware agnosticism, you can introduce new peripherals with new features whenever they want. They have established that they are willing to make them backward/forward compatible.

Sure, but a share button being the only new feature in 10 years is perhaps a bit slow/conservative.

Especially considering the competition catching up in the basics and actually making a comfortable controller and a shitload of new features on top of that.

I would love an Xbox controller with all the awesome features of the DualSense. It would have correct stick placement, better battery etc. It would be great and blow the DS out of the water.

I can agree with the first part, the new gen iteration was a pretty bland set of improvements.

I would have completely agreed with the second part before I had used a dual sense. Now that I have, I dont care if any of those features come to xbox controllers (speaker, triggers, gyro). Lol.

Just give me better materials, and haptics and that will be fine.

Hehe. Well I would think most gimmicky features would be optional, so the best of both worlds. But it would be better, and we’ll both get something out of it.

I honestly think you will get exactly what you are hoping for. I think they will follow suit with just about all of those features. Or some twists of their own.

Guys, have you played Ghostwire Tokyo Xbox? Did you manage to get the fire power? It is the perfect example why the rumble on Xbox controllers should improve asap. I legit I though I was going to harm my wrist. The controller made a really annoying sound, it completely vibrated like rattling but as if it was a cheap toy and the sensation wasn´t pleasant at all.

I would be gladly surprised if Xbox adds haptic feedback to their controllers tho. In the case of Playstation, it makes complete sense because games are specifically designed for the platform and to offer the best experience in it, and that of course includes the controller. Xbox, on the other hand, with its multidevice approach… yeah, I don´t see them going that route.
