Sony had the marketing rights to MLB The Show 2021.

Launched on gamepass.

These games will launch on gamepass as soon as the deal closes, regardless of marketing rights. It’s atypical for all of Microsofts acquisitions (Doublefine, Obsidian, InXile)

Steal think the best analogy for this is if amazon bought the rights to game of thrones for a crazy amount like 50 billion why in the world would they allow that content to be ona competitors platform unless that competitor had their service on it

Seriously who wouldn’t? you would simply get a bigger selection of games and also have the benefits of being a Game Pass subscriber.

Letting CoD continue on PS kinda makes sense but this GP on PS5 talk sounds totally crazy to me. :man_shrugging:

If ā€œDesire Vs Intentā€ is not the name of the next podcast episode… Come on guys…

Edit: linking to twitter doesn’t really seem to work atm.

You all remember Phil used the same committal but also non-committal wording with Bethesda right?

Also? Legally I doubt he can say Jack shit given the deal isn’t finalised yet lol

His wording was carefully chosen to allow for a tonne of wriggle room. ā€œIntentā€ and ā€œDesireā€ are smart words. You can fully intend to do something but stuff gets in the way. Or things change. You can have a desire that never gets fulfilled.

I would still expect a Bethesda situation.

Nothing gets pulled. Warzone and Hearhstone etc stay multi. All future stuff post deal closure is exclusive. Existing contracts honoured.

But then they would be beholden to Sony’s rules like how Epic Games is beholden to Google and Apple to get Fortnite on mobile devices. Sony historically has had a very suspicious attitude towards subscription services and anything they see as potential competition to their products and services. Remember how they blocked EA Play from PS4 for years? Ubisoft+ appears to still be blocked. Remember how they blocked cross progression for fear that Fortnite players would buy their microtransactions on other platforms while playing on PS4? Game Pass would not exist if it weren’t for Microsoft having their own console where they can make the rules.

IDK man, I get the ā€œcarefully chosen languageā€ but I think this is different and more upfront about the CoD situation then Bethesda.

Unless somebody can point me out several tweets or articles with the same exact wording… Then I’ll shut the hell up.

That’s how I’m seeing it as well, this is way more explicit, direct about PS and the game in question…CoD.

People here seem optimistic and how you should look at the words used, but I’m not really seeing it. If true I just hope Phil made an arrangement with Sony, could either be Game Pass on PS or that Sony stops their timed deals, the latter would be a great deal for us. The former…not really.

yep

I can’t open his tweets in my browser either. Seems to be something wrong with Twitter at the moment.

If CoD IS too big to pull, it’ll be a very interesting experience with CoD being $70 on one platform and $10 on another platform on such a huge high profile game.

Yeah it’s very odd. Earlier today I pasted a tweet by him and it would not show, never have that issue otherwise.

Yea this reads like they want to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation, provided PlayStation budges and allows Game Pass.

Phil is a PR master.

Either way I’m not fussed about any of this. Because you’re not going to achieve your ā€˜ā€˜gamepass sub’’ goals by keeping the big guns on other platforms, even if it’s only full priced there. I’m sure Phil knows this. You don’t spend 70B to keep things multiplatform. Makes zero business sense. Having new COD games be exclusive to your ecosystem is going to bring in MILLIONS of PS customers that’s going to generate so much money for you each month as opposed to a 1 time per year 60 buck payment. I think Phil is just saying this for 2 reasons…to keep the competition and legislators in bay. ā€˜ā€˜To keep COD on PS’’ could just mean Warzone, F2P version of COD.

They should let Draft King open up for Phil’s words. It will be the biggest bet ever.

Well, I just tried opening Phil Spencer his Twitter account and that didn’t seem to work either. :stuck_out_tongue:

GamePass is more than likely Day 1 on GamePass starting in 2023 barring any surprised in the Sony agreement, so it PROBABLY doesn’t matter if it’s multiplat for now, but it’ll be an interesting thing to watch.
