Phil Spencer shares intent to honour all previous agreements and desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation

I mean, Phil never mentioned Sony, Playstation or any specific franchise when talking about Bethesda. To me it sounds like COD will be multiplatform and the rest of Activision/Blizzard games will be exclusive.

Multiple Bethesda execs were talking about not intending to take games off of Playstation so I literally don’t trust anything anyone says until it’s official.

This is also very true.

This one’s a headscratcher.

Because they have the playbook now, and know exactly how to word things.

Yes he did

We just went through this with Zenimax man we all know what xbox has meant with their comments. Their games will go where game pass is.

Just Google “Phil Spencer Bethesda Playstation” and see the hundreds of articles written everytime he mentioned Playstation

I for one, am excited to spend another year arguing about the word “desire”

I searched a lot and I’ve literally never saw one article where he directly mentioned Sony, Playstation or any specific IP. I never found he saying something like “We desire to keep Call of Duty on Playstation”.

My guess:

  • Warzone still receives content and new maps on all platforms (like TESO, Fallout 76, Minecraft)
  • COD games become timed exclusives (whether it’s 3 or 6 months or 1 year…). In 2021, the 2nd best seller in the US was Black Ops Cold War that released in November 2020 so COD has strong legs. + they still get a lot of money

And that would still not contradict their “desire to keep COD on Playstation”.

For people like me who have all their games and trophies on PS3 and PS4 I would go back to PS5 if Microsoft brought Game Pass there. It was the only reason I switched to Xbox this gen. Respect to Jeff but I think that’s a crazy prediction.

They won’t do timed exclusives

I actually don’t see Game Pass ending up on PS5 unless it’s a severely gimped version that only stands as an enticement to buy an Xbox

oh, this will be a fun year

Now here’s an interesting question:

What if honoring existing contracts means No Day 1 on GamePass OR Spartacus first?

Sony has put that shit in games they’ve had marketing rights with before. See RE8.

NO PROG

Prog’s just free thinking here about existing contracts written by Sony when Activision was a free agent.

Deathloop did not go to PC GamePass Day 1.

I would like to fast forward to when the deal is done I’m already sick of the conversation

Zenimax was the most annoying 6 months online and this will be much worse

Desire vs Intent.

It’ll haunt your dreams.
