I’m completely fine with people being upset or let down. They should, Redfall is an embarrassing moment for Xbox.
People are taking it too far though.

If I had to guess, while they probably didn’t expect Redfall to set the world on fire, they certainly didn’t expect Arkane to put out such a dud either given their track record.
I feel the reactions are about 70% bad faith acting from a combination of console warriors and shitty Influencers looking for clicks. No game has had this kind of reaction, not even Cyberpunk which was an absolute clusterfuck at launch and nobody went at that with even half the gusto as they are this game. State of Decay and Sea of Thieves were low meta and didn’t get this flak.
Hell part of me thinks it has a lot to do with ( Tinfoil hat on) ABK, which most of the gaming media have been showing their ass about it and now that MS has been rejected the masks are off, and the other is HI FI Rush shadow dropping to critical acclaim while stomping Playstation’s hyped exclusive of the time and they were unable to do their usual FUD campaign. So Redfall gets the brunt of it.
It’s the only way I can make sense of people reacting like this over one game. I’m not going to act like it’s a normal reaction because it’s not.
I just don’t get it. I literally saw the reviews, said “oh no” and continued playing Dead Island 2.
That’s because Xbox was already the residential laughing stock when SOTD and SOT launched.
Redfall was supposed to usher in the era of consistent quality AAA games under Xbox. The context is very different, I’m not defending them, just explaining the difference between them.
It’s still not a normal reaction. It just isn’t. It’s ok to be disappointed but this is way above and beyond.
Eh, I felt all eyes were on Redfall due to the drought, and many assume with delay it wouldn’t have a messy launch like this. I think it’s fair to be let down by Redfall and it’s of course amplified due to the drought of 2022.
I think the issue is many are using it as an opportunity to dunk on Microsoft rather than move on. This is easy clicks opportunity for journalist and influencers. Anyways, this can all get swept away once the June showcase happens and Starfield launches.
I agree but this is what happens when you mix in trolls, bad faithers and genuine xbox fans who are upset.
Becomes a melting pot of hyperboles.
This is the kind of thing that makes me think maybe I should just back away from online discourse for a while before I start to sound like Adam Sessler when it comes to “gamers”.
The best was the IGN Doom and Gloom… Unlocked Podcast. If you listened to the podcast who would swear that the Xbox brand is dying. Yet, this is the same outlet that has not only given multiple Xbox first party titles 8s, 9s, and 10s throughout the last 2 years, but gave Forza Horizon 5 their Game of the Year in 2021.
It’s one thing to be disappointed with the release of Redfall, it’s entirely something else to suggest that Xbox is incapable of releasing quality first party titles when they have literally done so the last few years.
Definitely if it’s impacting you, I can see it being very exhausting.
I’m heavily into sports so I’m desensitized to all of this lol, sports toxicity makes this seem tame. None of this impacts my joy for gaming.
Honestly, I think people need to take a step back and assess why Redfall being “bad” bothers them so much. If you’re bothered because you were really excited for the game, I think that’s a healthy response. If you’re bothered because it makes Xbox look bad and adds fuel for negative Xbox narratives, I don’t think that’s healthy.
We should all be playing games because they’re fun. If videogames becomes like politics to you or you derive a sense of self worth or “belonging” because you’ve chosen a brand to be loyal to, you might need to take a break or seek help.
I don’t have any doubt that the majority of games Xbox 1st party puts out going forward are going to be good games. Xbox now has so many talented studios and world class IP to work with that it would be borderline crazy to think otherwise in my opinion. That doesn’t mean there won’t be stinkers or games that will be considered mediocre, but the track record for this gen alone has been pretty great sans Redfall.
This isn’t me simply defending Xbox or trying to tell people they’re not allowed to criticize the brand, but rather an attempt to get people to realize that the sky doesn’t have to be falling every time something “bad” happens. If you’re frustrated by Xbox and you feel they need to “prove it” to you, that’s fine because you are the consumer and you have that right. But, if you’re upset because you’re losing “cred” on the internet with strangers who bought a different device than you, you’re enjoying your hobby wrong in my humble opinion.
Yeah. Honestly I’ve been feeling distain towards “gamers” for a while now and I feel like social Media is a big part of why. Every time I engage with many of them there it feels like trying to reason with a very small rock. Utterly pointless. A shame because I used to enjoy discussing games.
Just saw the Tweet too.
Not that it surprises me in the least from IGN.I feel like this is all just outward expression of what MS/Xbox haters really want. They drank the Kool-Aid and now see Microsoft as a threat to their precious hobby. Haters are now taking Sony’s hard-line stance: they want Xbox out of the gaming industry.
So harping over a game that failed to meet such high expectations is now warped into people believing it’s a death knell to the brand.
So long as Microsoft stays in gaming, that’s all I care about. Their current strategy is working for them, despite what naysayers want to believe. Them remaining here continues to drive people crazy. I say. let them suffer and get into their feelings.
I had a phase like that with Star Wars. You start questioning your self on why you love a thing that has so many horrible people within its fandom.
I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way with Halo.
I’m not sure there’s ever a real solution to that answer. You either put your self in a bubble with like minded folks or you just become numb to the toxicity and negativity within a fandom like my self.
Not sure either option is healthy but I believe this forum is the closest thing to a healthy space to discuss video games.
This is beginning to remind me of Dexter Laboratory episode where DeeDee, the sister, wanted to know why Dexter was called to the Principal office, only to find out Dexter scored an A- and made a big deal out of it. In other words, it’s not that serious, guys.
Here is the thing though, this isn’t the first time any of the platform holders have had a drought in games for a years or more lol. So it indeed is a a overreaction
I didn’t watch it because I knew it was going to be embarrassing. I lost a lot respect for a bunch of people over this. I still like Kahlief but when Ryan posted that peanuts meme, I knew it was gonna be a trash show.
I can see from the interview that certain groups are visibly frustrated that the interview really sucked the wind out of sails of a lot more die-hard gloom discourse.
Granted it’s still just talking and talk is cheap, but being able to address gamers on an interview coherently after a hard week has russelled some jimmies.
Its the ps community be it fanboys or the media. They hate the xbox always have.
