You’d be surprised (or maybe not) how many people don’t seem to grasp this.
Its a shame really it all seems so obvious to me.
This 1000%.
I watched the interview a little while ago and it’s like, people are fucking dumb and obviously can’t comprehend what Phil was saying. It’s truly amazing.
The whole great games quote is spot on from Phil. Having great games would increase the worldwide market share for Xbox but to be #1 or #2? No freaking way. I mean come on. It’s like people aren’t paying attention to what Phil says and are coming up with their own version of what he actually said.
At best, having great games will retain their fan base and potentially get PlayStation 5 owners to buy a Series X/S as a complimentary console - similar to what PlayStation 5 is for me this generation.
I do believe that Phil should oversee the games a little more to see if the studio needs more money, time, resources, personnel or technical help and if so, give it to them.
I understand not wanting to force the studios to develop certain games but I really hope that Arkane/Tango do want to make Dishonored 3/Evil Within 3 and if so, Phil green lights them.
I am looking forward to the showcase knowing that at least a few of the games that Parris mentioned will be shown. Hoping to see gameplay for Avowed, Contraband, Fable, Hellblade 2 and Perfect Dark.
The only “complaint” I had with Phil’s interview is that he and everyone at Microsoft in regards to Xbox need to eliminate their saying of “we want you to play everywhere on any device” to “we want you to play how you want within the Xbox eco-system”. The way Phil and others say it is too open ended. This way, it makes it crystal clear for those who haven’t or can’t figure out what he and others at Microsoft are saying.
My conclusion is that MS should intervene more in some studios. Leave BGS, PG, Obsidian, Inxile, NinjaT, Rare, Tango, Id Soft, MachineG alone and intervene on everyone else.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and looking at the early menu-system screenshots show heavy elements of MTX and the current always-online requirement strengthens the ties too.

No this
(ESO) is Bethesdas first live service game and while buggy, it’s still there best and most successful. In spite of some not so good decisions by the creative team working on the game sometimes.
It’s why Bethesda acquisition happened. They needed help.
Should have said this, but I kind of take it for granted as it’s an MMO, and like you said it is actually still quite successful although the team seems focused on their next big MMO now which I can’t wait to see, hopefully soon enough!
Such an overreaction for god damn game. Lol, gaming universe is really something else.
not to mention that the VA of JD said that he didn’t hear anything about the upcoming game. thought it could be the case of the sequel wouldn’t bringing the char back because of an obvious reason (‘that’ ending).
Next zone and story arc is launching this year(I think it’s already out on PC, it’s also going to be possible to travel across all of Morrowind mainland on foot, at least someone mentioned this.) which started with 2 new dungeons added earlier this year. So while Zos is working on a new MMO, they’re still putting in the work on ESO(well not as much in the pvp side of things).
Thank you for proving my point. Like I said, the first two years were abysmal, I know, I owned a PS4 long before I picked up a Xbox One.
From my perspective, Redfall was a perfect shitstorm:
1- Other game was in development and then cancelled, so Redfall was supposed to be a quick game to make a quick buck; was supposed to be a short dev cycle 2- New Bethesda trend to try and make more live service games in order to supplement the studio financially (before MS acquisition) while the Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Starfield are getting made as these take forever and are expensive. 3- Game switched from GAAS to a more traditional model mid game, complicating things for Arkane. 4- Arkane’s first foray into multiplayer game added a layer of complexity (Deathloop invasions I don’t really count here as it’s not exactly the same) 5- New engine for them in UE4 so a lot to learn at the same time 6- Now a first party, full priced game so higher expectations
Arkane had it rough to be honest. However, come June 11 all will be forgotten once people see what’s cooking imo. Also, I expect Forza, Starfield and (hopefully) Hellblade 2 to bring up the score average of Microsoft first party this year and really end 2023 with a bang. If we have 1 or 2 more smaller, secret games in there, a good gamepass lineup, as well as an insane lineup for 2024 with 1 AAA game per quarter , along with a steady supply of consoles, and I think Xbox can make a comeback.
I have a couple thoughts about this interview firstly Phil said that they didn’t provide Redfall with much support which makes me question why they had it at their E3 Showcase not once but twice. All it did was hurt their brand, Redfall represented Xbox. Secondly, Microsoft needs new mock reviewers how on earth did this score double digits above the reviews. Lastly, they need someone who actually checks in on these studios every month after Redfall who knows how many more Redfall type situations are in development.
Besides that I liked the honesty and hope they take lessons from this disaster
I have NEVER seen anything like it in all my years. It’s insane to me.
I feel the reactions are due the 2022 drought and this being the first AAA game Microsft marketed since Halo Infinite. I do feel it’s going a bit overboard because one below average game shouldn’t erase all of the other games Microsoft released.
I dont know, I see some reactions of ppl literally having a breakdown on internet over this, going completely insane and I just can think on how ridiculous this situation is, lol.
It was brewing up from the moment Redfall and Starfield got delayed.
I mean can you blame them they delayed Redfall telling us it was to give us the best possible game (so we accepted it) and we ended up getting the worst Microsoft published game in a very long time after an extended drought.
