I don’t think it’s about the 30 fps versus 60 fps per se, but there will absolutely need to be a strong baseline performance & graphics display on the Series consoles, specifically the X. Even if it’s 30 fps, it has to be a very solid, good looking 30 fps.
Because if Starfield is a PC showcase whilst the Series consoles get a cr*p version (like an extreme Cyberpunk type scenario), then it’s not going to go down well at all.
One of the entire premises of first party games being a ‘superior’ console experience (or expected to be) is they’re coded to the metal of the target hardware they’re made for. That advantage goes right out the window if Xbox first party games become like third party games: better on PC, lesser on console.
I imagine it doesn’t get shared by Xbox themselves because the Xbox captures a small portion of console marketshare. It’s much better to be platform agnostic and focus on the multiple ways to experience the brand versus hyperfixating on the console – which has the highest barrier of entry right now believe it or not.
It’s an enthusiast product and MS is trying to stray away from that.
Xbox isn’t going to waste too much time advertising games that they don’t have marketing deals for, cmon be real guys. Just like you don’t see Sony advertising Diablo 4. Gamepass is the distinguishing factor for Xbox in terms of games and services that elevates Xbox from the other boxes if you prefer to game on console.
Speak for yourself. I actually play games. Where were people like you when Hi Fi Rush and Age of Empires dropped? Not to mention Ghostwire and multiple other games on Gamepass.
Stathis is clearly talking about AAA games not Hi-Fi Rush or Age of Empires which originally dropped in 2019. It’s completely acceptable to be upset about no major first party games in 18 months but I would think that will change from later this year onwards.
Imagine the roles were reversed and Hi Fi shadow dropped to success the first month of the year and a bunch of new shit on PS plus with Starfield and possibly Hellblade and Forza dropping in fall while Xbox has one major first party title dropping this “fiscal year”.
Who are you talking to aboout imagining the roles were reversed? we’re xbox fans here so scenarios with PS don’t matter. Also there’s no need to say ‘here’s why these games dont count’ because no-one is saying that. We all have different tastes and some prefer AAA, I personally have no interest in rhythm games and little patience for RTS. AAA games tend to be my bread and butter.
AAA games is a meaningless statement. RTS games are AAA. AAA just refers to the budget to develop said title. It’s an absolutely meaningless thing to ‘like AAA games’ it basically means you like any game that cost a high budget to make. Which would include AoE for example.
I think people just want well made games in these specific genres; FPS, third person shooters, third person linear action-adventure, third person open world, and western RPGs.
Here’s my take on the “whataboutisms” with Age of Empire, etc etc.
Phil made an address to the Xbox community yesterday for a reason, he knows how serious this moment was. There’s a difference with Redfall vs Hi Fi Rush/Age of Empires/Minecraft Legends no matter how unfair you might think it is.
That’s just the reality of the gaming landscape for better and worse.
It’s because of the context. Redfall is pretty much the worst first party shooter ever released by Xbox. It’s way worse than even the most pessimistic (or trolling) people thought after than IGN preview video.
This isn’t subjective either, it’s a fact. I put 31 minutes into it & that was enough to feel the jankiness, but just look at some of the gameplay clips or watch some videos, even from big Xbox fans like Skycaptin5, it’s horrible. The AI is broken, everything is a mess. It shouldn’t have been released.
So… Spencer had to address the situation because this is a very strange place for Xbox to be in, i.e. lots of money for acquisitions yet the first real first party exclusive to come out of Bethesda is awful.
AAA is a tricky term to use because games are more expensive to make these days. I know when people talking about wanting AAAs from Microsoft are talking about the genres I’ve mentioned earlier. It’s probably like @pg2g mentioned above that Redfall may not even be AAA possibly due to not having a AAA budget. However, people will say it’s AAA due to genre and being released on Xbox platform
I get what you mean about the context, but those same issues you mentioned were found in Cyberpunk 2077, in spades as well, after numerous delays to some fans’ annoyance and still did not receive this amount of hate from even other developers.
