Overwatch |OT| Welcome to Gold Hell!

Welcome to Overwatch OT!

What is Overwatch? Well, it is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter made by Blizzard. Described as a “hero shooter”, Overwatch assigns players into two teams of six, with each player selecting from a large roster of characters, known as “heroes”, with unique abilities. Teams work to complete map-specific objectives within a limited period of time.

Overwatch heroes are classified into three classes:

Tank

Tank heroes soak damage and shatter fortified positions, like closely grouped enemies and narrow chokepoints. If you’re a tank, you lead the charge.

Damage (DPS)

Damage heroes seek out, engage, and obliterate the enemy with wide-ranging tools, abilities and play styles. Fearsome but fragile, these heroes require backup to survive.

Support

Support heroes empower their allies by healing, shielding, boosting damage, and disabling foes. As a support, you’re the backbone of your team’s survival.

image Torbjörn / DPS Torbjörn’s extensive arsenal includes a rivet gun, hammer, and a personal forge that he can use to build turrets.
image Tracer / DPS Toting twin pulse pistols, energy-based time bombs, and rapid-fire banter, Tracer is able to “blink” through space and rewind her personal timeline as she battles to right wrongs the world over.
image Widowmaker / DPS Widowmaker equips herself with whatever it takes to eliminate her targets, including mines that dispense poisonous gas, a visor that grants her squad infra-sight, and a powerful sniper rifle that can fire in fully-automatic mode.
image D.Va / Tank D.Va’s mech is nimble and powerful—its twin Fusion Cannons blast away with autofire at short range, and she can use its Boosters to barrel over enemies and obstacles, or deflect attacks with her projectile-dismantling Defense Matrix.
image Orisa / Tank Orisa serves as the central anchor of her team, and defends her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier. She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once.
image Reinhardt / Tank Clad in powered armor and swinging his hammer, Reinhardt leads a rocket-propelled charge across the battleground and defends his squadmates with a massive energy barrier.
image Roadhog* / Tank Roadhog uses his signature Chain Hook to pull his enemies close before shredding them with blasts from his Scrap Gun.
image Sigma / Tank Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist and volatile tank who gained the power to control gravity in an orbital experiment gone wrong.
image Winston / Tank Winston wields impressive inventions—a jump pack, electricity-blasting Tesla Cannon, portable shield projector and more—with literal gorilla strength.
image Wrecking Ball / Tank Wrecking Ball rolls across the battlefield, using his arsenal of weapons and his mech’s powerful body to crush his enemies.
image Zarya / Tank Deploying powerful personal barriers that convert incoming damage into energy for her massive Particle Cannon, Zarya is an invaluable asset on the front lines of any battle.

I thought it would be nice to have Overwatch OT on XboxEra forum. Now that Overwatch 2 is pushed to 2022 and beyond, we are stuck with the first game for more than what was expected. So, share here your comp & QP stories, who is your main, and what we want to get fixed/patched.

I wonder if Blizzard won’t make Overwatch F2P one day, especially with Activision saying they want a kind of premium/F2P model for other franchises than just COD. It would be perfect for Overwatch to have the MP free, it would bring more players, while making the future PvE expansion premium.

Man, the wait for Overwatch 2 is gonna be hell. I can’t wait.

I hope they will go back on what they said and release some new heros this year if we have to wait until 2022.

That would be nice, but I don’t think it would get me personally to come back yet. I want the PvE stuff.

Yep, I’m really waiting for the PvE, also this adventure mode like in Diablo.

I know there is PVE in Overwatch 2, I wish theyflush out the story with some really cool missions. I just hope there is more depth than the seasonal events they did.

Also I am on a madddd loosing streak. Was at like 2357 for heals and was on a big win streak and now I am on 2090

Yeah, happens all the time. When you think you are out into higher rank, they pull you down lol. Someone told me, that last 100 sr for the next rank (for example 2400-2500sr) are the hardest. And they are right!

Now I’m sitting on 2200sr for tank/support, even if few weeks ago I was 2400+. I think people jumping into tank/support roles just to get priority tickets is mistake imo. Most of them are dps who really don’t get what is their role outside of damage.

That’s what they’re doing, to my understanding. There are Campaign Missions and also Hero Missions (which sound like a Horde Mode).

Hahaha, I think so too. Its been so hard to get back up to plat for me.

Add to that some days you get 3 to 4 games in a row with trolls, leavers or people who are really (I mean really really) bad it becomea downright impossible to climb up.

Exactly, it’s like a pattern. Last time I was one victory away from getting into Plat and I got team of silvers / unranked doing placements, enemy team mixture of plats and golds. We got rolled. Next game, there was dps leaver in my team. Never recovered. Sigh.

Any recommendations on which hero is good to start off with when playing for the first time?

For tanks, Reinhardt and Orisa. If you want damage go with McCree, Soldier: 76, or Ashe. In support class try Ana, Moira or Lucio.

But the key is to know what your role/class should do. With tanks, you make space for others and you are usually on the front line, everyone else is behind you. DPS is there to take an opportunity and damage the enemy team. Depends on the hero, some of them can make damage from far some of them need to be closer. And healers are there to support the team.

Usually, the team follows the main tank and makes a strategy around them.

You can try all heroes in Quick Play and see which gameplay style suits you the most. The amazing thing about Overwatch is that anyone can find a hero that resonates with your personal rhythm and play style. I played Torbjorn for a crazy amount of hours, only to find out that Zenyatta is my thing, and later D.Va and Ana. Take care about abilities cooldown and use map natural covers, cause positioning matters.

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face: It is always that fear of playing for the first time and letting my team down. Maybe starting off with support would be best and at least I am not right on the front line to begin with.

Speaking of Torbjorn, I like the idea of being a little viking that can build turrets

Haha, yeah he is super useful, you can try him too. But don’t worry too much about your team in Quick Play mode, cause 80% time in that mode nobody plays game serious, it’s all about having fun time. But for beginners, it is a nice way to be introduced to different game modes and maps. Once you reach level 25 you can start Competitive mode if you want, and here is important to play together with the team.

If you decide to go damage route, use Deathmatch mode, that will iron out your aiming and mechanical skills.
