NXgamer: AC Valhalla next Gen comparison (1440p version is now up!)

Given the PS5 seems more buggy and more prone to issues not really sure that’s true.

Nobody did a better job it’s just different timelines and plans. Both consoles are immense. Series X is literally transformative.

I don’t think he got a Series X until launch, or close to it. Though I could be wrong.

I do think he found a particular audience in people who decided DF were Xbox biased (lol) and needed some SSD focused coverage in the beginning of the year. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he was essentially never referenced prior to that.

In either case he seems like a nice enough guy and if he is playing to an audience it’s not totally overboard. But if he’s not doing like to like scenes and averages that’s a pretty big issue.

Did we ever get confirmation that wharf texture comparison was a capture issue?

I have both and honestly I like the SX better. But it has a software problem and yeah it is a bit disappointing that there isn’t really one game you can look at and think, now this is next gen.

Did they? There are some very important features missing from ps5 OS, even basic ones like being able to move games to cold storage.

Even with the tools more mature they are still equal or behind in performance (even if not by the gap that should be), Spiderman miles morales is super buggy, and their standout exclusive title is a ps4 game that they just blocked to launch to make the ps5 launch lineup better (and that will definitely launch on ps4 afterwards).

And that’s not even counting the inumerous reports of problems that are being reported on the console. Data corruption, games crashing, games with graphical artificats…

Again,Ms released more games than Sony this year. They could very well hold half of them to SX launch and have a bigger lineup. They didn’t do it not because they were caught with their pants down but because they are under a different strategy. You may not like it, but let’s not pretend that it’s not the scenario they wanted to be in or they were somehow in trouble because no good discussion comes from that line of thought.

And also let’s not ignore those games are enhanced for SX offering higher framerates and settings than even X.

I wouldn’t say Sony have got their console out successfully. I’m reading guides that say don’t use a usb external drive, don’t use the lan port and only use Wi-Fi and don’t use suspend. There’s crashes and the system having to rebuild itself, on top of that there’s pretty bad coil whine and noisy fans.

Twitter is plagued with the ps5 not operating properly, seems like while their tools are more mature the actual OS is pretty much broken. No VRR either etc, and they’ve had to disable the m.2 port.

I would say that’s more of a mess than a slight FPS drop on ass creed Valhalla.

They aren’t just guesses as multiple sources even here have confirmed as such. Secondly, I’d be hesitant to say Sony did anything better with the waves of OS and hardware issues being reported by PS5 owners, missing features, etc.

So Xbox had less games at launch. They launched more than Sony did all year and it’s clear it’s because Sony was simply holding games back to release for launch, unless you’re stupid enough to think the PS4 versions of those games were made in mere weeks.

Finally, when you are ignoring the near year of COVID life and how that impacted so many in the industry, at this point it should be bannable. At the very least, you’re on here spewing FUD and faux concern built from cherry picked examples whilst ignoring those that negate your narrative.

Playing Assasins creed and watch dogs are better examples of next gen IMO than anything I played on the Xbox one launch. Watch dogs ray tracing is lovely and playing a large open world RPG at 60 FPS is immense. It’s like playing on a PC. Not really sure I agree. Both these look and feel very next gen, especially Assasins creed. It’s a far better game than anything at XB1 launch.

I don’t think assassin’s creed looks at all good.

Coming from gears 5 to this, the character models are PS3 / 360 era level.

The tearing and frame drops are constant and abysmal.

The only thing that will save this for me is when I get the lg cx

Don’t forget though that Xbox waited for the full RDNA 2. Had they not done that they probably wouldn’t have been in this position now.

That being said, them having the full RDNA 2 should prove very promising for the future. The only area where they went wrong is the first party lineup. I look at DS on PS5 and I can’t help but think "damn, I’d love to have just one XGS or XGP game with great visuals, giving that next gen feel. They banked all on Halo Infinite and that’s not good.

But we’ve had that discussion so many times. Enjoy gaming!

Which targeted one device. PS5 SDK is same as PS4, just with extensions for PS5’s feature set.

You’re comparing apples to oranges if you’re comparing PS5 SDK to Game Core.

Well… He was questioned on why he didn’t cover Microsoft Flight Simulator a while ago on Neogaf, and he said that he is making a video on it. Until this second, no MSFS video got released by his channel. I doubt he isn’t a bit biased.

He’s a Sony shill farming for Sony Fanboy clicks. All there is to it.

I believe there’s multiple things at work here. #1, cannot overlook the impact covid has had. I don’t believe talking about that is making excuses. It has impacted the launch and will impact the industry in 2021. It has impacted many of us.

For all the talk of putting all their eggs in the Halo basket, I disagree. They had a marketing deal with Cyberpunk which was supposed to release earlier this year and would have then had time for a next gen patch. Medium and The Ascent were two smaller, but good looking games set to launch alongside Halo. Destiny was the Game Pass killer app and was supposed to have a next gen patch. Add to that the Ubisoft games which are buggy and came in hot, the entire launch was likely impacted by covid.

Yes, if Microsoft was invested in 1st party 4 years ago, they would’ve had a better chance to have more backups for the launch window. Wouldn’t have guaranteed anything as we’ve seen by the impact on 3rd parties.

Sony deserves credit for preparing far ahead of time and having projects targeting launch that weren’t unwieldy in scope. Props to them for being the exception.

In the end though, nobody predicted covid or it’s impact to be this significant. It would have been hard to fault either for delaying their launches. The fact that the hardware is here and some devs have managed to provide something for us should be appreciated while we’re locked down. The downsides of this launch will be marginal in the big picture.

I’m not saying people here can’t vent or criticize. Just keep it all in perspective.

This is just competely false

X360 had these exact same performance issues at launch on many titles. Examples:

Call of duty 2 had a VERY unstable framerate (around 40fps, never reached 60k

Pdz had both fps and tearing issues

Oblivion ran AWFUL with constant drops below 25fps

These issues were 100% related to new tools and engines not taking advantage of new hardware

This is what we are currently seeing in ac valhalla… i really hope they patch it to clear up the tearing - it is really distracting

Of course I remember but that was basically BS by the massive Sony userbase fuelled by the Sony CGI-fest of E32005. I didn’t agree with that even then, I was a very big supporter of the xbox360 from day one, Another big AAA graphical powerhouse that I forgot was the ghost recon game that came a few months after xbox360’ release.

What MS next gen games that look like the two big Sony exclusives can I play on the XSX ? Gears 5 ? How is Sony holding games, they just released TLOU2 and GOT a few months ago.

Sony was ready, MS is whatever when it comes to these console launches , let’s just agree about that and move on. Hell MS doesn’t even have 1-2 semi-big 3rd party timed exclusives coming in the next year.

You can play Flight Simulator, Gears Tactics, and even Grounded if you want graphically intensive games.

Sony was ready because the damn thing was supposed to launch last year. How many times do we have to hit these same points only for them to be ignored? Also, saying Ryse or DR3 were “whatever” is a certainly some edgelord material right there.

Again, coupled with the intended launch of PS5 last year, Sony teams simply had more time that wasn’t affected by COVID. Also, ignoring the sheer volume of issues being reported by PS5 users, even with titles like Spider-Man, is certainly tainting any credibility with clear cherry-picking.

For you and two or so others on this forum, I’m not saying you can’t be critical or have disappointment, but when you ignore the repeated affects of COVID and the facts about the two consoles’ development (facts which are own hosts corroborate) it’s hard to take your issues as anything other than concern-trolling/trolling.

Sony was ready, because they have some of the best software development teams out there - Insomniac in particular is a machine with both Spider-Man and R&C within six months of launch. MS has some great ones too, especially Obsidian, but they are just behind. And MS made a huge tactical error pinning all their hopes on a historically average studio in 343 … as a result, many internal groups at MS have had to help with the mess, which has put a further delay on software. Halo was everything for this launch, and as a result MS has nothing new to show.

The software is coming - but not until 2022 at the earliest right now. Third parties will have to carry the torch for Xbox until then. And yes, if you are one of those “I need it now” folks, should have bought the PS5 - their first year is nothing short of phenomenal. Me, I have patience, and missed a ton of games at the end of the generation. So BC will be fine for me until the end of next year from what I can tell

It would be nice if we can stay on topic without involving lists. Thank you!
