Thinking about it, we are already paying 80€ for many premium releases right now. It sucks, but that’s where everything is going right now.
The way I look at it, I am willing to play Breath of the Wild again, and I have that Kirby Forgoten Land one that is getting enhanced + expansion content and I havent played it yet. I can finish my backlog out on it and then worry about picking up anything else later. Ill pick up the Donkey Kong game.
Same. Switch is mostly a Zelda, portable Overwatch and a few indie games for me so I won’t buy many new games. I just want 4K Zelda BOTW and TOTK.
depends. If they charged something similar to the Sony upgrade for a remaster fee it wouldnt be hard to stomach with new content. If they charge anything more than $10? That would do a great deal to make firm my anger.
Kirby Forgotten Land is worth playing without the upgrade by the by. One of the Switch’s best game. the only thing it was missing was a hard mode.
I read 10€ for graphical update and 20€ for update with additional content (so both Zelda games). Of course, free udpates are a possibility for third party.
If true, screw that. I already hate Nintendo, so there’s no way in hell I’m paying that much for games.
yeah that won’t confuse the average customer. no sir that won’t confuse them at all.
The Zelda upgrades are also free if you are a NSO Expansion pass member.
and if false it sounds like you won’t buy it anyway.
Not true. I’ve actually been on the fence about it. Despite my hatred for Nintendo and their bullshit, I like videogames, so I tend to buy everything. Plus, if there’s a new Animal Crossing, my wife will probably want me to get one anyway.
Lol
Did not expect Nintendo to be the ones who brought 80-90$ prices to the industry… not good
Just work a second job
Yeah, don’t bother with contrarians.
As for the actual topic at hand, I was fully on board before today and Nintendo has managed to make this the first Nintendo console, in my 30+ years of buying their consoles at launch, that I’ll be waiting for a second-gen/OLED model, if I buy one at all at this point. Game Pass has actually made gaming affordable, and with this, it’s clear Nintendo (just like Sony) is all about nickel and diming their customers beyond measure. $450 also, for a device that’s likely less powerful than a Deck (despite releasing years later and without OLED, no less), is an absolute joke.
I 100% agree on the comparative value aspects as well as the nickle and diming part. The pricing across the board for games and accessories is kind of ludicrous.
The primary hardware however, I dont agree as much. $400 Steam deck has the same storage, a lower resolution and non-HDR LCD display that is only 60hz, and a Wi-Fi 5 antenna.
Additionally, a dock to connect it to a display is an additional $80. The cheapest OLED deck, sans dock, is $549.
Switch 2 is 1080p, HDR, and 120hz (with VRR) and has WiFi6. With a dock included.
If the rumored specs are true, which until someone does a tear down we probably wont know, but I have no reason to doubt because everything else has turned out to be true, the thing is 1.72Tf in handheld and 3.1ish docked. That is at the very least on par with a steam deck in portable and better when docked. For $450, I think that is pretty reasonable.
It also allegedly has higher memory bandwidth than a deck while docked, and tad lower in handheld.
But with that said, I think the software pricing alone is enough to warrant your feelings on the matter.
You’re right; I had been basing specs off my Ally X, but forgot how much weaker the Deck is comparatively. I still think it’s still expensive for an LCD device, especially when companies like Retroid and AYN are putting in OLED panels to devices less than half the cost (in the case of the RP5, for example) - and Nintendo gets components far cheaper than a company like Retroid.
Yeah, I just think it’s a basic question of “do Nintendo games still matter to me”. If yes, well there is only one game in town and the hardware is pretty good.
If the answer is no, and third party stuff is your bread and butter, there is no doubt better options.
“Today games bad”, again with the drivel. Some of you dont want to admit the TRUTH, Xbox today is better than the overrated X360 days. Way more variety on First Party. Avowed is crap to you?, Forza Horizon 5 is crap to you? Pentiment is crap to you?, South Of Midnight looks like the best thing compulsion made and is about to drop, Indiana Jones and The great Circle is a Masterpiece. And Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 was good too. Enough with this “games today bad” crap. And After this Switch 2 thing, those Xbox Portables with Gamepass are looking real good. Plus thanks to Windows native, multiplayer support Steam Deck can not GET.
PS5 Pro is not the main PS5, is an extra, the main console is the base PS5 and comparing how GPU prices are these days, the price is not bad, is not for the average gamer is for the Playstation audience equivalent of people that buy an rtx 5090 for 2000$ despite looking ridiculous for average people and what it brings, is a luxury extra, if base PS5 was that price then it would be a problem. PS5 Pro is for people with like 100 inches tvs. Xbox dont need to make a Pro Version because the Pro version is high end PC, but a PC equivalent to Pro would be just as expensive or more because a Gaming PC is not just GPU, you need ram, cpu, motherboard, etc, etc. But average people dont care about that thing is just fodder for console wars. Average PS player is buying a normal PS5 not a Pro. Just like how average PC player power is below an Xbox Series X and PS5. Tons of pc players with nvidia 10 series cards and AMDs 580s.
Still Xbox with Gamepass is a great deal for average consumer. Plus the even cheaper entry on the ecosystem with Series S. Because games are what matter and Gamepass has the new games and cheap.
