To be honest, I think they will update their list with more CPU’s until launch.
The idea is anything newer than 2016 might have tpm 2.0 support.
For GPUs, most 20xx and 30xx series nvidia gpus will support Dx12U.
And the other criterion is dual core cpus and 4GB RAM.
This is actually not too surprising as they are targeting 2022. They always target forward facing hardware with newer versions. This was done for Win 95, Win2k, xp, vista, win 7 and win 8 (or even win 10 which is actually a refined win8 with the same innards).
But if you are targeting the new Windows Store then ppl dont need to upgrade hardware. Windows 10 will be updated to the latest store.
I think it’s a little too early to get scared about device compatibility. We won’t be seeing the new OS for several months, and things can change in the meantime, assuming we’re even being told the correct parameters. MS could be clearer in general about messaging.
Some of it like tpm 2.0 and the nvidia or radeon requirements for gaming won’t change. The Russia Solarwinds super hack has taught MS not to ease on security requirements.
The only soft change might be easing on the cpu gen requirements. Instead of gen 8 and over, they would probably be ok with up to 6th gen processors.
A lot of it is also people being nervous of change. Which is understandable. However, every generation has these same set of fears of change.
Scalpers are back!
I don’t know why people are making this an issue. Tech should move forward and not be held back by old hardware. Besides all the PCMR-muppets like to brag about their systems so this should be a non-issue.
It never feels good to be left behind, and not everybody can afford to move along? It’s true that Windows 10 will stay supported for a good long while, but surely you can understand that it must suck to have a giant mega corporation look down on you and tell you that your shitty hand-me-down laptop is subpar
Edit: It just occurred to me that “PCMR” might mean PC Master Race? Those people probably can afford a new computer then but you’re better off just tuning them out. Anybody who bases their personality on being belligerently defensive of a single game platform is deeply pathetic and not worthy of your precious attention.
I see quite a few references to a list for Windows 11 but it looks like there is a lot of confusion around it. It is just a list of their test lab systems. The intent is for OEMs (system builders) to have general idea to choose their components from. Their test lab system list may expand over time.
Just saw Brad Sams’s video. And it seems there are just too many accidental sources of information for compatibility.
Unsurprisingly, they will need to ask all of the information sources to stay silent - and just focus on one single source of truth for the information. It could be a blog post - which seems to be the plan – or Panos Panay telling in a video what the compatibility will look like.
This is one thing that Xbox has done really well so far. Not relying on multiple avenues of information sharing and being very careful with how the information is shared. Looks like Panos should call up Phil and ask.
Ooh, maybe they’re bringing Clippy back for Office /Windows 11!
Also, I could see a simple platformer where you play as Clippy, though I’m sure that’s not likely to happen
Just removing so much of Terry Myerson’s nonsense that he introduced in Windows 8, has made them change the version.
Windows 10 was just about making Windows 8 and 8.1 as palatable to many ueers. But retained a lot of rhe same underlying architecture with Store and improved only on the service aspects of it.
Looking forward.
Already installed the dev build. Everything’s working well so far. Settings app is like a hundred times better.
it looks more flush than the windows 10 app. Looking good! How responsive does the app feel?
App is pretty responsive, much better animations compared to the old one so everything feels a bit smoother.
Looks nice, hopefully it works.
Tempting to register for an Insider build now.
