New Final Fantasy game timed exclusive to PS5

Ah, I assumed it would also be on PC along with the PS5.

FF7R still isn’t, so you’ll never know.

Not surprised. Sony is going hard on the JRPG.

The fact MS keeps getting crucified for deals a fragment of this size or for buying companies outright and shock taking on all expenses, debt, legal fees, lawsuits and still investing a ton in their studios whereas Sony can just bring a dumptruck full of “fuck Xbox, Switch and maybe PC money” will never cease to amaze me.

And before anyone asks, yes I’m fine with Sony buying Square. If they want to take on Square’s mountain of debt, the legal headaches of a public market acquisition, fight off interested third parties like Tencent and let’s be real, Microsoft, the regulatory hurdles and still have to work with the pre-existing contracts or buy them out for a shitton, and then invest a ton in growing their studios and pay the wages for their upcoming games then as far as I’m concerned, they’ve fucking earned it. But the marketshare war will only get them so far.

How much debt does Square have? And if it’s a lot, I guess that would explain why Square Enix accepts up front paydays for almost every game.

It’s clear that Sony wouldn’t do it, why they would even want it? They already get whatever they want for cheap (compared to actually running the company), no risks attached and even the public consensus for their shitty deals.

From what I can find from their financial reports, $78,043,410.54

Mountain was still a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but that is the price of 1-2 AAA games or 3 III Studios.

That’s not that bad. Didn’t Avengers lose them like $65m or so? If it did, that’s pretty much all their debt. lol

Thank God the FF series doesn’t interest me whatsoever. But I can definitely see how this deal continues to hurt those who love the series.

As some have already stated, this deal does absolutely nothing for us as consumers. If you think without this exclusive deal that it wasn’t going to hit PS consoles, then you’re obviously fooling yourself.

But you know what, this is the way Microsoft and mainly Sony goes about business. With that in mind, every single Bethesda game needs to be exclusive to Xbox/PC. I hope Phil fights fire with fire and continues to show how big Microsoft’s pockets are.

Big bank take little bank. Show Sony how cute these time exclusive deals are, just like with the Bethesda acquisition.

The cheapest way for MS to stop this is to play ball and bid for timed exclusivity on Xbox even though it will cost way more than what Sony is paying. Or perhaps they could pay for publishers not to exclude them from these games.

I am still surprised by how many Xbox owners are into JRPGs. Xbox has never been and will never be the place for that genre. Well, short of a major acquisition.

If you are a JRPG fan and you are an xbox fan you need a PS or a switch. Thats the reality.

Phil has done a commendable job bringing what Japanese support he can to Xbox. Had PlayStation not moneyhatted Final Fantasy, Xbox would’ve had the majority of major Japanese franchises landing day and date barring Atlus titles and other odds and ends. I’m thinking of series like Yakuza, Tales, Dragon Quest, Nier, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Other platforms will be the go-to for more niche Japanese games, though. Xbox also finally has a Japanese studio in-house now. There’s not too much to complain about, just Square scumming for whatever deal they can. Hoping Xbox can just bridge the gap to Persona this E3.

What? 360 had a ton of JRPGs on it, and a lot of them were actually exclusive (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, etc). It’s not that weird that Xbox gamers like JRPGs. :stuck_out_tongue:

OT: Personally, I’m pretty pissed Sony is going this route. Mainly only because of FF7R, but still. I loved the FF series (before it started to get ruined after FF10), and I don’t want them to miss Xbox. The more Japanese games on Xbox, the better.

SE knows Final Fantasy sells on name alone. So with a powerful brand like that SE can sell exclusivity to Sony and know whenever they get around to releasing on Xbox it will still sell. They may even be able to secure another deal from MS for Game Pass or some special edition. Then they sell the special edition content to Playstation gamers as DLC.

I think it does hurt the Final Fantasy brand overall, but so does the focus on flashy hype. I just get the feeling they are doing that thing where they create the game hoping to also sell figurines, anime, cosplay, etc… Instead of just creating interesting content that inspires those things naturally.

I hope they find their footing with 16 and whatever this game is. 15 was kind of a letdown for me, it didn’t feel like a FF game. TBH, I felt that way about 13 to some degree. The 7:Remake was solid though, but that’s mainly due to nostalgia for the source material for me. 14 is the best FF game I’ve played since maybe 9-10…?

Door? You do know you can own both consoles at the same time right?

Ummm okay?

Cool?

I have no clue what you are even going on about.

Does anyone else understand?

I must be tired.
