Thanks. Jez’s part was interesting and well-thought out, but man, those other guys are annoying, haha
I don’t mind them except for Dee Batch, that dude is a clown extraordinaire and I’m glad Jez shut him up. I’m embarrassed that we’re both Canadian too.,
One of them, I think Dealer said “Trash!” about a few games in a few minutes. I think that rhetoric is terrible.
I think people under-rate the potential of Game Pass Ultimate in the minds of the investors. They don’t even spend 7.5 billion if they don’t think there is a pot of gold with Game Pass Ultimate’s tipping point. They want to make as much money as possible. They just don’t need to see those returns now. Giving up some of the now money to drive customers to their platform could result in more money over the long term. The way Nadella thinks with growth opportunities, it’s all about the long term vision. He will pass all the nickels on the way if it helps them get to their end goal faster.
Personally I receive no joy seeing Playstation gamers not playing Bethesda games yet Microsoft knows that in a few years when these games are releasing, 5G will have wider adoption, their tech will be better, it’ll be running off Series X APUs in Azure and Playstation gamers have a choice to play Starfield for $10 using their PS5 controller streaming on a shitty PC.
Personally I think Sony would have even tried all they can NOT to honor any deals MS may had made with Bethesda if the roles were reversed. I just don’t think very highly of Sony.
Yep, can see that happening too. Some games not performing too well that they might decide that.
I can’t see Demon’s Souls or God of War happening, just as you said, but if Sony were to ease up on the timed exclusive stuff AND if they were to buy a huge studio and they would be willing to keep some games multiplatform…i would be fine with MS doing the same. But once Sony buys (for example) From Soft, it’s over, no more games on Xbox and Xbox should do exactly the same then.
Maybe I’m too negative, but if that were to happen I can actually see Sony pulling all kinds of moves to keep Elden Ring off of Xbox.
Would be a very bad look if they release ES6 or Starfield on PS5 while not releasing Deathloop and Ghostwire on Xbox.
Starfield for example has been in development for many years now (Todd said 2.5 in 2018) so obviously a PS5 build exists. Do you think they now have the full team only focused on Xbox Series and PC? It’s probably impossible for us to know, because who knows what MS is planning for the release of this game.
But let’s say they ditch the PS5 for now and maybe announce the game for PS5 sometime after launch, all these folks that fully expect Starfield day one on PS5 will be in for a rude awakening for sure.
The game having been in development for 4.5 years and still not shown this year during console reveals when it would have gotten a ton of attention is… weird. Wonder if they held back knowing that things were likely to change.
This is why I lean more toward the 1 year to permanent exclusives. If MS pushes all of these studios to build around XVA and other Series capabilities that aren’t announced for PS5, why waste initial development cycles on the PS5? Push your games out leveraging the new tech as much as possible for the Series consoles and newer graphics cards and accommodate other PCs. Xcloud is assumed for most titles in this scenario.
After all that, you have a chance to monitor the release for patches and DLC. Once that is stable, do a market analysis and see if a switch/switch pro/PS5 release, based on their install base, is worth the development time to port and risk of reducing GPU subs.
Because they are the opposition? And a hostile opposition at that. Why do people thing that MS is somehow play nice with Sony when Sony is exclusively antagonistic towards MS? The only way any Microsoft IP (outside of Minecraft) should appear on a Sony console is if Sony allows GamePass on the console. That’s it.
Then Microsoft can scrap its xbox division and become a third party publisher. Exclusive offerings are the sole purpose of choosing one console over the other.
Idk I mean the MMOs (Fallout 76 and ESO) make sense there too
All games that are currently multi-platform will remains so. Phil already announced that.
Does that mean they get added to PS5?
I literally just said that all currently multi-platform games will remain so. Phil already announced that.
I mean I literally typed that.
That means Ghostwire and Deathloop (damjed timed exclusives even these two), the DOOM expansion and I think that’s about it then?
Both Starfield and TES VI didn’t have platforms announced even yet, just next gen.
Phil Spencer should very publicly commit to releasing all XGS games on PS5 via Game Pass. When Sony refuses (since it’d bankrupt PlayStation eventually if GP was actually allowed), Phil can be the good guy and Sony can be the bad guy for blocking their playerbase from accessing the best deal in gaming. Then Phil can be justified in keeping everything Xbox/PC-exclusive.
~win~
While I agree that they are focusing on subs, I don’t think ps5 equals to steam.
If you are on steam you already are on a platform that has the whole Ms embedded with Xbox. You have achievements, friends list, and gamepass is a click away. Also we know their goal is to get gamepass into steam and we know it’s possible given EA Play.
On Playstation they can’t get nothing like that. They don’t get Xbox achievements to hook people into their social ecosystem. They don’t get active users on Playstation to be able to see, talk and chat with Xbox users and they don’t get gamepass on Playstation.
And I think that would cause the opposite effect. If the person on ps5 has access to all the games but don’t need to sub or even access Xbox live they will keep ignoring it, instead of being drawn to the ecosystem like a Elder Scrolls 6 skipping ps5 might do.
Spend 7.5 BILLION to let your competition reap the benefits for free? LMAO WWSD?
Steam also requires Windows 10 to play Xbox games which brings you into the greater MS ecosystem.
