Movies and TV shows thread

I wonder how thats going to be any different than the series we already had with Smallville.

At this point I don’t want to be retold the same stories we’ve already had been told already. I want new stories with big super powers being used with big fights and fantasy plotlines. I don’t want anymore “a day in the life of” or “how I became x” stories unless its an entirely brand new character that has hever had any TV or Movie treatments.

Read Superman: American Alien. Its most probably going to be similar to that. It has Lobo and Parasite in it as villains so you get your “brand new characters that have never been in movies” .

Gunn has already said that his Superman is younger but it’s not an origin story. Everything is already established. Basically, Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Avatar 2 receives Square Enix treatment – fails to meet expectations at the box office.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” didn’t make quite as big of a splash as many assumed it would, but James Cameron’s big budget spectacle still helped breathe life into the box office this weekend. The sequel earned $134 million from North American theaters and $300.5 million internationally for a $434.5 million global debut, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

Going into the weekend many were expecting a domestic debut of at least $150 million. Some even said $175 million or higher, but tracking has also not been as reliable a metric during the pandemic.

I saw some nonsense about how Avatar 3 will be 9 hours, which of course has to be BS. I gotta say that I don’t care one bit when Cameron starts to talk about how Avatar 5 or 6 will be unlike anything we’ve seen before. It took him 13 years to make the sequel, I might not even be freaking alive when 5 or 6 comes.

I know, they say the wait will be much shorter now, but still. We’ll see about that.

I don’t see it taking over a decade like the first film. The reason it took so long for the Avatar 2 is because James wanted he rest of the movies penned out like Star Wars 1-6, and his studio, Lightstorm Entertainment, had to create from the ground up motion capture technology that would work under water. I’ll always remember reading this article from Collider with James explaining why the next movie was taking so long. Long story short his company had their first ever successful shot of Underwater motion capture in early 2017 after 2 years of trail and error. https://collider.com/avatar-sequels-underwater-filming-explained-james-cameron/

So unless he is going to reinvent the wheel again with his production company, I don’t see it taking as long. Plus the man is nearly 70 I would assume he would like to finish the vision for his films before he kicks the bucket.

Avatar 3 has 9 hours worth of footage. He said he wants the studio to do VFX for all the footage before deciding what will be cut out down. The theatrical cut wont be even close to 9 hours. Btw Avatar 4 is already half done so it wont take long for Avatar 5 to finish production.

Very good to know. I didn’t know any of this, very interesting. Makes a whole lot of sense now.

I mean, if the movie(s) are good I don’t mind sitting in the cinema for hours, I’ve been to the marathon of the Jason Bourne movies with my brother years ago, was awesome. Also The Hobbit marathon, incredibly long sit, lol. But 9 hours of Avatar, nah, haha. It may not be 9 hours but I bet he will absolutely top the running time of 2.

Dwayne and Henry both gave their goodbyes. Gal next?

I bet we see nothing from the bad sheep of the universe, Ezra and Amber, but we know they’re long gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if those movies (Flash and Aquaman) never see the light of day and Zaslav takes the write-offs instead.

Zaslav cant take write-offs now. That option was only available till August.

They wont fire any of the cast members of Shazam 2, The Flash and Aquaman 2 officially because they still have to market and release the movies, but the writing is on the wall for all of them.

Well he could at least save all the marketing and distribution and other upcoming costs? Or is their next best opportunity to “save money” come when they release it and it severely under-performs, like sort of finalizing the loss on the books to offset any positive gains elsewhere?

Anyways, I sort of want Gunn to do a Wonder Twins movie including the silly monkey character too. I want the new movies focus to be on the lesser characters, cause I’m burned out on so many decades of bad movies for the main characters.

They most probably cant because these things are written in contracts before the production even begins. They would have to break the contracts which means paying more money to cast and crew. Its a lose-lose situation for WB.

I doubt Gunn is going to go with this much obscure characters. The most likely ones are Adam Strange, Booster Gold, Mr. Terrific, Deadman, Batmite and secret six. Tho we already have Peacemaker and there are many obscure characters in that show.

Isn’t the rumour that The Flash movie will take a cue from the Flashpoint comic and essentially reboot the DCU, thus paving the way for a clean slate of sorts?

That was all BG era - Before Gunn.

If he’s not using Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson hes not going to use someone like Ezra who has nothing but legal issues this past year. He’s a boat anchor. There have been reports that he was already dropped this past summer. No way would anyone stick their neck out to push to bring him back.

Both Ezra and Amber better be gone too.

You are right, The Flash movie is basically Flashpoint and was going to soft reboot the DCEU. But Gunn is not moving ahead with the reboot this Flash movie sets up. He is completely abandoning that universe and starting his own from scratch. Tho The Flash movie is really good so Im kinda glad its still coming out.

Got it. A clean break is definitely the best way to go, just a shame it’s going to take a while for it to hit the screens.

Just saw “I wanna Dance : The Whitney Houston movie”

I gotta say the actress/singer playing her has one hell of a voice and she does a tremendous impression. However, that’s for me based on her popular songs, it’s not that I’m a fan, haha. Although I’ve always loved the Bodyguard song as a child, damn.

Was a good movie overall and just damn sad to realize, again, how her death could have been avoided. She was doing well again, or well, it sure seemed like it.

EDIT

Just read in user reviews that they apparently use Whitney’s real vocals, now I feel stupid, lmao.

Being with my sister for Christmas I saw some classic Christmas flicks for the first time

Elf is actually well done and hilarious

Christmas Carrol? For all the love it gets I found it pretty awful, honestly. Just my opinion, but was not impressed

Doing my yearly watch of It’s a Wonderful Life with my folks. Fantastic and surprisingly human film for being released in 1947.

Watching it now made me realize that it very well might be the only Socialist Christmas film .
