Movies and TV shows thread

Not at all what I was expecting. When I heard Del Toro I thought of a dark and live action movie, but it’s nothing like that. Does look good though!

Quantum of Solace is really fantastic if you watch it shortly after watching Casino Royale. QoS is underrated because of this. You have to treat it like a double feature.

Honestly that’s a good way of looking at it. To be honest though, the plot seems all too easily true and relevant as well…

Btw, I’m curious why you ranked Lazenby so high. I personally liked his movie, but I had a hard time connecting him with the James Bond character since he had only one movie.

Honestly it’s a bit hard to say why exactly other than just how it makes me feel. I connect him with the movie and since it’s one of my favorites, and another that relies more on the character and his wits instead of just gadgets even though there may have been one or two. I love the relationship storyline a lot which probably just makes me bump it up my list as well. Not sure I can give a quantifiable answer here, sorry

Ah hell no! This really comes out of left field.

Rest in peace!

Just got back from The Son.

Arthouse movie with Hugh Jackman as the father of a son in his 15-17s that is struggling with life, let’s keep it at that. I thought it was incredibly powerful, it shows what a huge motherfucker depression can be, no matter if you’re young or old, how hard it is for those that try their best to help someone that is depressed.

This movie hit home big time, my father has had a huge depression most of his adult life until he passed away, a lot of things here I could relate to. Jackman is superb, absolutely fantastic acting. This is heavy stuff, but that’s why I love cinema. You got mindless entertainment with MCU, you get suspense with a horror or thriller, and then you have stuff that really makes you think, one that will stick with you for a while.

Have you watched Manchester by the Sea?

Have never heard of it, but I read the description just now. Sounds like something I will watch. Thanks!

In other news, according to a tweet yesterday we’re gonna get the first Indiana Jones 5 trailer within this month.

You should check out Beautiful Boy, which stars Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell.

I hope Gunn and the other fella manages to create something special with DC.

I know Snyder was very polarizing and his movies had alot flaws but I loved the unique take he had on Superman/Batman.

I hope Gunn is able to have his own voice and wasn’t hired to make a MCU 2.0.

Finished episode 1 with the boys yesterday.

Feels very familiar to Dark but completely different at the same time, really strong pilot imo.

I hope they adapt Blackest Night .

I saw that Lilyhammer is going to leave Netflix Monday and it’s a show I’ve been meaning to watch but just never got around to doing.

Two episodes in and I notice how it’s often trying to be funny, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t at all. Jokes like Al Quada on ice, that doesn’t even make sense, making unnecessary remarks about an Arabian man, or just how the protagonist is already behaving like he knows best and forces his way…not a fan of that. Calling a doctor who happens to wear glasses Harry Potter, come on now, just silly.

Also in these two episodes there’s just a bit too many coincidences, I know it’s not a big town, but still.

I’ll watch a few more and see where it goes.

Recently got around to watching the Runouni Kenshin live action movies. The movies pretty much followed some the plot of the series with changes done to accommodate for the shorter run time.

Some of the changes I thought were interesting, but others felt strange if not bad from my limited memory of when I last watched the movie. Like Hiko finding Kenshin washed up on a beach instead of Kenshin seeking him out.

But overall I thought it was a pretty good set of movies that go over some of the bigger plot points, with some really good action scenes and great setting.
