Nah, you have to be a bit special in the head to consider that anything but a dumb deal.
It will mean only good things for Game Pass I think, no need to be anxious. You can be pissed about the stupidity of the Cult and the fanboism in media but thereâs nothing to worry about. I might have my concerns about other things, but Game Pass is the one thing Iâm absolutely certain MS will succeed in. If they feel threatened they will just buy more content, like that is the one thing we can be certain of from the Activision deal; a shitload of games will come to Game Pass, now and in the future. They will continue on that road and there is not a chance in hell Sony can even begin to compete with MS when it comes to that.
I donât know Jeff Grubb so I might just be blowing hot air, but you almost get the impression that heâs aware of his Xbox-friendly rep and is going out of his way to praise Sony to appear more neutral.
On one hand you have a point in that Sony will tout it as a GP competitior, and they will have Cultists and more importantly, media doing the heavy lifting in that department, also people are quite ignorant. On the other hand, this can all be combated by a strong marketing from Xbox, which i really hope will be a thing going forward.
Iâm not worried this will be a problem tbh.
It might be if Sony becomes the first one to market it decently in Europe, where Game Pass is not that well known. Not to mention it is the part of PS+ but with new benefits essentially.
I donât know whatâs happened to him tbh. If it is like you say, that is rather silly. Journalists should not be bothered about appearing friendly to anyone, they should report facts.
Well, they are not first though are they. Xbox might be nowhere to be seen, but Game Pass is known. It is especially strong on PC.
Gamepass def needs much better marketing and hammer down full game day ones . I could see the unaware shrug off gamepass being similar to Spartacus
Not expecting anything good out of this subscription service and someone somewhere compared Spartacus to Nintendo Online which definitely seems to be a far more accurate comparison than Game Pass which is far superior in literally every way.
Plus, unlike what Spartacus looks like and Nintendo Online, Microsoft doesnât lock previous generation games behind a paywall.
Seriously, while I love the majority of Sonyâs exclusives, they literally have nothing else of value and this service is going to be total and complete shit if whatâs listed in the opening post turns out to be accurate.
Forget about PS5 1st party games on the service. How about all PS4 1st party games (atleast not the cross-gen ones). What. Sony still need to sell that old arse Uncharted 4 copies somewhere in their bunker for extra $$$?..
Yes, this definitely hinges on Microsoft Gaming getting their marketing in order. I think things will be different once the strong point of Game Pass, the day 1 first party games, is actually rolling on full steam. Starfield will be the kick-off is my bet. Thatâs the first big game that will appeal to a lot of new people outside the Xbox ecosystem currently.
I think the key word there is âlookâ. To the average consumer, a larger catalog can look like a better offering than a more curated selection. What heâs saying isnât entirely wrong even if it may not entirely reflect each service.
Even though Spartacus wonât offer day one 1st party releases, it can still be a good service that offers value for the price. Just because it may not be as good as GP, that doesnât mean itâs bad.
I see what youâre saying, but very few are saying that PS+/Spartacus would be bad, especially Progâs response. The issue he, I, and others have is that quote implies that despite being more expensive and not having feature parity âthese features should make PS Plus look much stronger in comparison to Xbox Game Passâ. Thereâs no room for interpretation there about game catalogs, featureset, etc. and itâs why I reached out to Jeff for clarification privately (and am still awaiting a response).
It reads like someone spinning a narrative thatâs not exactly matched by the data at hand.
I took it as âthese features should make PS Plus look much stronger than not having them when in comparison to Xbox Game Passâ. Thatâs what I feel is a reasonable take, but that isnât what was said. Missing out on the fragment âthan not having them whenâ makes a big difference in meaning. Hopefully weâll get refinements in Grubbâs statement.
Thatâs my point, we can all infer things but the words that are used matter⌠and those words donât seem to leave room for interpretation when you directly compare to another piece (in this case: subscription) like Jeff did.
Indeed.
Itâs the difference between âLetâs eat kidsâ and âLetâs eat, kidsâ.
Iâm not to worried about donât stealing most of the day one streaming games from Microsoft. Remember them money hatting games is then paying for the loss sales on Xbox. Then getting streaming games day one they are paying for the loss sales on playstation.
Being the market leader makes it more expensive to get streaming versus money hatting the games. Which could explain why some third party games only come to Xbox and not pc.
Yeah, I think itâs important to remember that Microsoft will win and lose some, same as Sony, especially as Xbox continues on the current trajectory (Iâd argue theyâve already surpassed the point of being a necessity in any gamersâ homes, but with ABK and further acquisitions/partnerships, thatâs even more so the case).
Huh? Going from â no day 1 games from 1Pâ to âyou can try 1P games beforehand for a bitâ is definitely a stronger value prop than it was rumored to be. I wonder if they would let users do these trials before the game is actually out, which would increase that appeal by a bit further.
Didnât they do the game trials thing before anyhow? And iirc, it was kinda badly incorporated where the clock started ticking the moment it was queued up to download or something? I suppose this time they would do that kinda thing for all 1P games. Kinda feel like pricing is awkward too. Not unfair, but awkward.
Totally agree, I like the dude but itâs not even subtle at this point that he is trying (and really ungracefully at that) to appear as more âneutralâ with his recent hot takes/articles.
