Mid-gen Xbox hardware roadmap leak (New 2TB XSX slim, new controller with haptics, gyro, speakers and quieter buttons), more info

i feel like nintendo is the endgame for xbox. i think it wuld result in better switches because they would be ok with taking a hit for more power

I’m already not a fan of how their consoles require an online connection to just setup, so it’s only natural that I’m not excited about a console requiring an online connection to just play my games. I’ve been asking MS to move away from that direction. Edge cases like Flight Sim are cool, I can see the use and how it’s a benefit. I don’t want that to be the standard on how games are made.

With no physical disc drive the Series X refresh doesn’t appeal to me. Happy to stick with my current Series X.

Sorry if too pessimistic but by 2028, I don’t think we’ll have the luxury of being worried about game consoles

It’s 2023 and basically all devices more or less need internet connection if not to function, to function well. Try playing on Xbox without connecting online for a few weeks - it’s basically a dead non starter. And that is 2023.

The online debate was out of date back in 2013 and now it’s so far out of date it’s unreal.

By 2025 let alone 2028 it will be very silly to reignite the discussion. I suspect that whatever they ship will allow you to play offline but like everyone else’s offerings it will be a very pared down experience.

This, most people are already digital only, they don’t care about online only stuff

Yes it sucks when outages happen and you can’t play your games but this happens so little it’s basically irrelevant, everyone is online 24/7 nowadays

It;s fine to want certain things but it’s time to face reality, the physical/offline people are becoming a smaller and smaller minority everyday, I was one of them about 5 years ago, now I couldn’t care less about either

Personally i’d be very excited about what MS would be able to do with cloud stuff, flight sim is already incredible tech so being able to apply things like that, performance improvements, ai.i etc sounds awesome

I’ll get the new Series X just for the better Wifi, I currently have a Series X since launch and have NEVER used the disc drive and I have not bought a physical game since 2012.

wait so is xbox waiting till the end of next year to decide if its getting out of the console race? seems some of these conversations are hinting at that

It could be an always online thing but what I’m getting is they will have that ability accelerated by hardware, but not necessarily required by all games or to be always online. That is, it’s also a pitch, it’s not a thing they already decided on.

But after all I wouldn’t be surprised if it is, Microsoft have shown they lack consistency with consumer products and understanding specific market expectations… I can see them enforce this hybrid cloud gaming thing even though they could just start slow with some games and let people understand that and want it themselves, don’t enforce it.

I already can’t play most of my games if I’m offline today and that already aggravates me, I have no reason to believe I’ll be able to do it with this new console. Just because many people are accepting of DRM being on their consoles, that doesn’t mean all of us are.

The thing is, internet outages aren’t entirely uncommon in my area unfortunately. So any online requirement is a negative for me. I shouldn’t have to accept my console and games that I spend my hard earned money on turning into a brick when I’m offline and it’s out of my control.

I hope it’s not enforced and I hope devs aren’t encouraged to utilize it. I want developers to refine their skills on a set of hardware to pull more and more out of these boxes, not fall back to the cloud or risk getting a gimped game if my ISP has issues. What we see with Flight Sim makes sense and is cool, but every game doesn’t need to be like Flight Sim nor would I want it to be.

On the flip side, I’m glad we’re getting a controller with haptics. That’s the one feature from the dualsense that I wanted to carry over to the Xbox side.

The question that needs to be asked here is will this be the controller to finally fix stick drift?

Why? I play my owned games offline just fine

I’m going to buy the 2024 holiday xbox. That will leave 2020 Xbox series X in living room. 2020 Series S in my sons room. And I will put the 2024 Series X Slim in my bedroom.

If they release a handheld, I’ll buy that too. #xboxgamer

I will buy the new Series X if only for Wi-Fi 6. I Wonder if the USB port means we might get some VR. I like to hope Xbox have a counter plan if Playsation go for a Pro since they’ve got a counter to a PlayStation slim

I’m definitely buying the new digital Xbox Series X and the controller. I have been digital for Xbox since the end of 360. I trust Xbox with backwards compatibility going forward. Xbox will make sure their 1st party games will be backwards compatible for the next generation of Xbox! I love the thinking of Team Xbox! We just need the games to deliver

I doubt that the slim/refresh is going to completely replace the disc version, as for always online cloud compute, they’re not going to push it like they’re not pushing any of the tech they have put into the series consoles already.

Also are we already thinking that the current Xbox consoles won’t get the tech new tech added to them?

You can’t counter a console. The roadmaps leaked show how far in advance you need to be. For example Spencer answered a question that if they were to hit their target date for 2028 for a new console the work on it would have to start October 2023 at the absolute latest.

Given there is no Pro console in the roadmap so we know that nothing was worked on up till end of 2022 and we know the One X was in planning almost as soon as the S released we can say that even with a shortened cycle a pro console would at the absolutely earliest be possible in 2026/7 now……put simply it’s not possible.

I waited a long time for gyro to get added to standard controller and I’m so glad it’s coming. Finally.

And the new controller design feels like a refinement of an already perfect controller. Durability and sustainability improvements are also great.

I’m probably going to buy that digital Series X… I feel like I have to. 2tb standard internal is needed now.

There is no way in hell that’s happening. There are already plans for the next system, and they are in the middle of acquiring ABK. Let alone all the other studios they acquired.

I don’t think they have done and are doing all that to then call it quits and basically become a publisher, I guess it would amount to? Nah.
