I think people are vastly overrating the amount of people that would pay more for a pro edition, especially with the consoles not really decreasing in price this gen.
Oh I donāt necessarily expect a Pro to sell like hotcakes, unless shops come with trade in programs, it becomes very appealing then. But for me itās about what devs do with it. One X might not have sold crazy, but I sure loved that MS came with it.
The goals for the next Xbox were leaked. (AI tools for devs, maybe switching from x64 cpu to arm cpu, cloud assisting with latency, etc, etc.)
Interesting! Iām seeing a lot of doom and gloom (what else is new) about the cloud stuff, but hybrid means we get to play our games like we do now AND cloud capabilities, correct?
I recall that even MS admitted cloud really isnāt where it needs to be at all yet.
No. They are talking about local processing with less latency critical stuff offloaded to the cloud. So for example local renderering but AI calculations offloaded to the cloud. Or stuff like that.
It would mean in essence itās an always online console period. But this is early concept stuff it doesnāt dig into the details.
We know MS have been looking at the possibility of blended cloud and local compute since last generation.
Theyāve said they arenāt doing a pro console and itās not in their leaked roadmap. It is now clearly 100% not a thing and with good reason. Three Xbox skus would be too much. There is absolutely no reason for one either. Xbox is needing to compete on price not on high end consoles. They need to have the cheap and affordable options because if they try and pitch a pro console it will just eat money right now.
Always online is not much of an issue, Iām pretty much used to that now anyway. But I do hope it wonāt all be cloud. I tried Stadia two years ago and while it looked good, there were still issues like artifacts and just not as good as how we play our games now. Game streaming is optional now, and I hope it still is next gen too. I think weāre still quite a ways off before it looks and feels exactly like playing a game like we do now, either digitally or hard copy. But Iām sure they know what theyāre doing.
Business wise itās probably not wise to do a Pro, but was One X a very profitable decision for them? It was great for us gamers though and as a hardcore Xbox player (ever since the first one) I really want them to keep up with what the competition is doing. But yeah, it is what it is, itās gonna be at least five more years of XSX then.
sucks that there isnt going to be a XSX pro.
They are talking about hybrid local and cloud processing. Itās not streaming games. Itās about offloading some parts of the game to the cloud in a hybrid way with the local compute. Itās clearly the future for all computation. What that might look like by 2028 is up in the airā¦.I suspect it will be some games take adavantage of cloud compute but not all. I doubt latency has been solved enough for say physics calculations to be offloaded by then.
Yeah, itās kinda surprising after the things Phil said like never losing on power and price again. I guess thatās just not something that can ever be set in stone though. Perhaps they expected Sony not to do one either and Sony surprised them. Assuming all the Sony stuff is true, so far we got nothing. But it was a good source that reported on it.
Assuming games like Witcher 4 and the Witcher remake will come this generation, those might be PS purchases for me.
There is stuff in the leak in Philās cross exam where he says that (paraphrasing) unless console sales accelerate beyond 2020 projections they would need to make a decision by 26/27 as to whether to exit the market and likely would do if those projections arenāt exceeded.
So this is going to go well isnāt it?
Iām surprised more people arenāt talking about the handheld!
Itās on page 6 of the roadmap right next to the main consoles!

Those are likely just the third party handhelds like Steam Deck
Sounds good to me. Iāve been all-digital since like forever. With Gamepass and how easy it is to buy digital games, Aināt never buying another disc ever again.
Iām all-digital since the end of the 360 days, so wouldāve liked to have had this option at launch. No standout feature for me to get this, but I will get the new controller.
Its right next to the canceled Cloud Device. It would not put to much weight on this presentation. Microsoft is also not building gaming keyboard and mice.
$500, no disk drive? Why would removing the disk drive on a premium console be desirable? That just gives microsoft more control over how you play your games.
A fully all digital future is not something you should want. We need a balance for game preservation and consumer protection, along with competition on game prices. There are some games that never seem to go on sale on the Xbox digital store but can be bought on disk for cheap, or through buy one get one type deals.
This is ridiculous, if youāre passionate about your hobby being gaming you must own a few games physically. I donāt like it. I was fine with my xbox series s being digital becaue the price point but if a series x thatās fully digital and comes with 2tb of storage for $500 I could see it replacing the disk version.
If this happens they better have an option still for a disk version of the series x.
Thatās what I initially thought, however unlike all the other devices it is highlighted and in colour like the Series S/X and the unreleased prototype cloud consoles, which makes me think itās going to be an official device!
It is, but itās the first official document we have seen that they could be working on a handheld format (it has worked for Nintendo!).
Microsoft already make keyboards and mice, their ergonomic ones are actually really well made. I wouldnāt put it past them to work with their hardware teams to design Xbox branded versions.
The best game preservation is on the only platform where you canāt buy disc games. Being digital only has nothing to do with preservation.
For comparision:
My PC library (over almost 20 years) on Steam is 100% compatible with my newest hardware.
My Xbox library is around 70-80% compatible with my newest Xbox hardware.
My Nintendo library is 0% compatible with my newest hardware from them.
My Playstation library would be 0% compatible if i would buy the newest hardware from them.
