When late last year the game got rated for Xbox I was starting to get a bit optimistic, but here we are. It’s a small team, and it seems they aren’t the best at optimisation in general, so I probably should just not expect a damn thing. It took Larian a few months too, but not every dev is the same.
Larian love to get into fights with everyone, constantly preaching like they’re saints - I agree with some of it around bad practices in some AAA games but they really need to stop acting like they’re the best thing ever.
You can’t buy BG3 on any sites other than a few main stores in order to keep the price up (so no CDKeys, Humble etc) and the biggest discount they do is 20% which on a 4 year old game (early access 2020, full release 2023) is just gouging at this point.
They hate game subscription services (obviously aimed at Game Pass) and generally get on my nerves with the sermons against big players in the industry, so when they blamed the Series S I wasn’t surprised…
Also, they really started the worst of “the Series S is a problem” that trolls have really run with ever since - as they were the first devs to be anything other than full of praise for it (on the record at least).
And yep I still want my bloody money back from those sods!
What I find pretty fucking annoying is…where are we at now with this?
Feng-Ji stated that the only thing missing for Black Myth Wukong in 2024 is the Xbox port. The reason for that is “10G of shared memory,” which is “really impossible to get” on the Series S “without several years of optimization experience.”
This came out in August, it’s been more than four months. So where are we with this now? What does he mean with “several years of optimization experience”? Is he basically admitting his team doesn’t have that experience? This is not something they knew before confirming the Xbox versions?
We getting this shit at all?
Like I said…
Remember Microsoft came out and said a deal was done, when the dev was instead blaming the Series S to hide the fact they’d taken Sony’s money to at least prioritise the PS5.
So it’s very possible he’s still blaming it and a deal is still in play or they’re a way behind due to the prioritisation of PS.
At this point I wouldn’t trust a word the dev says - Xbox don’t burn bridges with developers by hinting that they’ve done deals unless they know it for a fact and need to fight back against the bad PR these devs (with or without Sony’s encouragement) were generating against the Series S.
Of course Sony and their loyal gaming media / fans hate the Series S as combined with Game Pass it’s by far the best value entry into this generation…
If it comes, great - but if not, fuck em
Pretty much where I’m at with this. Would’ve loved to play it but there are other games like it that will come to Xbox eventually so whatever.
I don’t think the game is that great in the 1st place.
This game is a technical mess on every platform it is out on but as usual Xbox gets the brunt of the backlash,
Honestly just based on reactions alone, Wuchang Fallen Feather looks to gain a lot from Xbox users in the long run more so than Wukong IF this whole Sony deal is true as i just have a feeling that based on the game polished state and the interactionsi have seen online i feel like this is a game Xbox was very smart to get as i feel like many in China might buy an Xbox console or they might even give game pass and the xbox ecosystem a go with it. I feel like Wukong devs a ignoring the landmine that is the attention something like game pass has to casual and hardcore gamers overall.
If Microsoft truly wants to prove that there’s an exclusivity deal in place (which Game Science as not denied outright unlike Larian a year ago), there’s an easy solution. Eliminate the Xbox Series S mandate for the game. Sure, there will be a backlash over this but let’s be honest, there’s always some kind of backlash against Microsoft and Xbox anyway. This way, Game Science said the Series X version was ready to go months ago which if that’s true and there’s no exclusivity deal in place, then after announcing this which I would do publicly if im Microsoft, the game should then be on Series X within a month, maybe less depending on how long certification takes.
If months go by and it’s not even in the certification process, then obviously there’s an exclusivity deal in place. Game Science just doesn’t say it.
As for the game itself, I bought and played it a few months ago. It looks great, played really well, combat is excellent and I was enjoying the story/characters but I only completed chapter one and the game is freaking hard mainly due to archers that shoot arrows at you and there’s no way to get to them so you have to find a space to hide/fight where they can’t hit you. It’s honestly very annoying and a shame because after completing the first chapter, I was really into the game, enjoying it and wanted to keep playing. Wish they would add a story/easy difficulty mode to the game or at least add a weapon or something that would allow you to attack/kill the archers. Oh well.
They will never remove the Series S mandate for any game.
Yep if they did it for one, they’d have to do it for everyone.
Certain extra features like co-op or performance stuff is obviously fine, but not having a Series S version would screw over half the Series userbase and they’d rightly sue, it’d screw over the store (which doesn’t split out Series tags), xCloud (as it often uses the S profile) and a future handheld if that used the S profile, and not least would be giving in to the circus around blaming the S for everything.
Better to not have the game that do something so alienating due to some devs who’ve behaved pretty appallingly (and even Xbox seems to think so as they very rarely comment on deals as it’s not a good look getting into fights with devs).
I’ve got a PC so could get the game and was considering it till they started playing silly buggers - but I don’t reward stupid
Given the sheer amount of technically-competent games released on Series S, I have no idea why we’re even entertaining the excuse being levied by what’s clearly a dev “skill” issue
Except for the fact that it was brought up by a drive-by poster…
That and very likely some kind of deal, even if it’s just to prioritise PS5 so they’re miles behind on Xbox (but blaming the S) - as since they first blamed the S Microsoft came out all guns blazing and talked about a deal being done, and I really don’t think they’d do that if they weren’t certain as it’s burning bridges.
So yep dev skill issue but also almost certainly some kind of deal no matter what PS gaming media and fans (not that there’s much difference) say
Yeah, probably not.
Hi,
Game science founder/Black Myth Wukong development director Feng Ji clearly highlighted the lack of experience in optimizing his studio: “but the 10GB shared memory, without several years of experience in optimization, it is really difficult to use it”
this is widely commented information, on an upcoming game on Xbox, published in the appropriate topic of a forum dedicated to Xbox.
the “drive-by” nature of the poster despite its “very assiduous reading” nature should not reduce the relevance of the post or at least reduce the interest in discussing it, I will continue as rarely as I feel to post unless a topic is locked by a minimum quota of posts. Finally, for me respectful behavior always takes precedence over seniority or the number of comments.
I do agree that people here can be a bit too dismissive at times. In general it’s better than other places, but always room for improvement.
Right but Xbox came out and said there’s a deal in place when he first used that excuse - and they never do that.
They always say “we’re working with the developers to help overcome any issues”, but this time they went nuclear and said “there’s a deal in place”.
They wouldn’t say that if it wasn’t true given Game Science could sue them (plus bad feelings) - whereas Xbox can’t sue the other way round as two things can be true - they took a deal to prioritise PS5 and they’ve not got devs capable of optimising for the Series S so it’d be difficult to win.
I think what’s frustrating me and many others is some posters here, pretty much every gaming site plus most online commentators and fans take everything Game Science and any other developer no matter how small and regardless of any past biases or comments as the gospel truth that must be the only correct version of the story.
Microsoft have no reason to lie, they never get into it with devs and they could be sued if they did lie - so I’m generally going to believe them over a problematic CEO who’s said quite a few silly things and doesn’t seem to ever take responsibility for anything…
I don’t think the poster did a drive by post, but it’s still an issue where the devs taking on more than they can handle. I’ve seen the videos and the game performs poorly on Playstation and PC. Also, people trying to dunk on Series S for this is dumb. Series S makes devs improve on optimization and you can look at BG3 for example where the series s helped improve optimization across all platforms. Lastly, i doubt people hating series s will have the same energy for switch 2. Also, optimization in the long run will make things better for handheld market.
I think a lot of it is that people (the internet at large) shit on the Series S constantly while spackling their pantaloons about another incoming woefully underpowered Nintendo platform. It’s the years of hypocrisy that have people fed up.
(The larger point being that scalability is a requirement now and the range of devices that need to be supported in the new world we are in is going to include hardware above and below the Series S)
