I mean… it could’ve been Dead Rising 4.
I had more fun with Dead Rising 4 then Resident Evil 3 remake, no lie. I’m probably one of maybe 3 people on this planet that wants a new Dead Rising game lol
I will admit that Dead Rising isn’t really my cup of tea, but I truly hope you get your wish.
The more games, the better.
I can’t think of another publisher that could majorly benefit from the resources of MS the way ZeniMax/Bethesda could, where they had a generation of a few underperformers and needed some air cover while they innovate.
As for studios, Asobo seems like the most obvious pick given they’ve worked with Xbox on several games now and have a 10-year plan for Flight Sim. Don’t want another situation like with DoubleHelix was snapped up by Amazon in the middle of Killer Instinct development.
Not sure about others. I think eventually Bungie comes back to Xbox if they see someone like Bethesda working semi-independently for long enough. I would love to see Remedy back with Xbox for another Alan Wake. I’m not sure of any other independent devs that had a deep history with Xbox.
As for Techland, I love Dying Light, but does MS need another zombie game?
Lol I mean generally speaking except a few missfires like this, their globa output is great!
I want Lost Planet to come back. Imagine a brand new Breath Of Fire next gen RPG. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in dev by Itsuno, hope Sony won’t rush for timed deal again
Xbox QA team right now
Ya know, I’m still gonna be reeling from the news yesterday for a good while yet, and I’m almost in the mindset where I am consciously trying to downplay these murmurs/hints since they seem greedy almost at this point…but if there’s more studios then…welp, wow.
I’m genuinely starting to feel bad for Sony somehow. lol
Look at how MS is powerfull, to put things in perspective and see how much 7.5b represent for them.
Bethesda: “Wait, whole teams of ppl for testing? No shit? Huh…”
Yah I just read this, excellent read.
Agree. Can’t be too mad at the board. Their job was to keep the studio alive by being profitable. They were sticking with single player games longer than most. When they tried to pivot to what the industry was doing, their studios weren’t cut out for it. It was just a tough match. AAA single player games that most of their studios made were not sustainable in today’s marketplace. They are great for Game Pass though. This is really a good match for both companies. Now instead of Arkane and Tango being potential casualties of a reorg, we have Arkane hiring.
Capcom’s Market Cap is 6B. Probably would sell for 7 to 7.5
I mostly agree. The board made many tough calls, but also shortsighted ones. I think had 76 launched in the state it was when Wastelanders did, it would be much better received. I’m also very excited to see what the non-BGS and Id studios bring to the table. Those two (rightfully) get a lot of the hype, but who knows. Maybe Roundhouse under the financial freedom of MS will kill it and they will reinvent themselves from the remnants of the Quiet Man folks to MS’s Sucker Punch. Maybe Tango will make something out of their spooky comfort zone but groundbreaking. Maybe Alpha Dog will get some great MS mobile titles (Sorry MS folks, I know you lurk here, but Forza Street… not my speed). Machinegames might tie a bow on Wolfenstein and make a crazy Euro-Horror. And Arkane has tons of potential. It’s all very exciting.
Seeing this many talented studios get to make the games they’re best at making is so damned exciting. To me it’s more exciting than anything else about the deal. I don’t care about exclusives honestly. Seeing really talented teams get the best tools with creative autonomy and not be constrained by the economics of the industry while having the option to make sequels and iterate when they want is refreshing.
I dislike system wars and list wars talk but this is why I’m far more excited about Microsoft’s studios than any other publishers next gen. They’re empowered by the platform. Living on a platform that gives them insane exposure with a low barrier to entry immediately makes all these talented players able to play to their strengths.
Agreed. And as weird as this sounds, it could be great for Sony as well. Having a dominant market share breeds complacency. Having a strong Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo breeds tons of competition. Some of it is a bit more cutthroat like timed AAA exclusives and dlc, but a lot of it can be better games and empowering creators. Like, Demon’s Souls was comissioned by Sony to respond to Elder Scrolls Oblivion being timed exclusive and it basically created a whole new genre. Who knows what Sony will do to counteract Starfield. It might be crummy or it might be amazing and I think Jim and the team should look back on what really saved the PS3 era and laid the groundwork for this past gen.
I believe Microsoft is going to have the kind of output and success thanks to Game Pass that’s going to put pressure on a lot of the industry. They give their studios creative autonomy because their business model affords that. When every game has to be it’s own business model, it either has to continue raising the bar to be the “best thing ever” or follow industry trends. Sony is currently operating by trying to push to be the “best thing ever” within a familiar formula every time. People love that and don’t want that to change…but I believe it’s not sustainable. I’ve heard from devs who don’t believe it’s sustainable. It’s only going to be harder to wow people to the point where your game stands out so much 10 million+ people are willing to spend $70 on a game. With the tools that even small and medium sized devs will have next gen, “prettier” and “bigger” will reach diminishing returns. The differentiators will be from the creative side of things. From a technical perspective, floor is coming up faster than the ceiling is rising. The best asset for publishers to have next gen is great creatives. The Game Pass landscape will attract a lot of them to Microsoft.
Deal!
