Microsoft backtracks Xbox Live Gold price hike, also ends membership requirement for Free-to-Play Games [2021-01-22]

You have to let the XGPU-sub lapse first. It won’t work if you have an active sub.

Exactly.

Do you lose your previous Games with Gold if you let your sub lapse or cancel then renew later? Just wondering if you get back access to all of them when you sign back up.

And we’ll all forget about this when the new shiny game comes out and just accept it as what it is.

Please, at least can we stop treating a corporation that exists to make a profit off of us at very inopportune times, as friends.

Like, no more Happy Birthday threads for Phil Spencer would be a start.

Don’t forget all the talk about the “ecosystem” when PC pay $0 for MP and console $120. Outrageous and hypocritical.

You get access back to anything you have previously claimed, no worries.

I don’t get why F2P games need to behind gold, most of the revenue for these games comes from microtransactions which MS takes a 30% cut on and more people playing these F2P games because they are actually free means Xbox gets more revenue in return?

Other platforms are already seeing this and here is Xbox, still playing blind.

I hope the media presses Phil and others about this because this is such a bad deal for consumers. I hope there is a plan to counter this because at the moment this is an awful deal because not everybody wants gamepass, and shouldn’t force people to join gamepass like this. I feel the games that are in gamepass should be what selss the service and not decreasing value of xbox live

Fucking corpos. That’s why.

They usually throw their shit news first and then follow up a week later with something to offset, I wonder what it’ll be this time.

I agree that this is a terrible move by MS.

They need to reverse this decision, make F2P games actually free or scrap Gold entirely.

It seems like a move to bully people into Game Pass Ultimate.

If that is their end goal, they should be enticing people in a more consumer friendly way. If you convert from Gold to XGP for example, you get an addition 6 months of XGP on the house.

MS has come across as very consumer friendly and gamer focused as of late but moves like this have an ability to completely erase all that goodwill in people’s minds that they’ve been building up.

lol that’s a bit excessive. I think we should all definitely hold the leaders of these communities accountable as and when shit hits the fan. This move reminds me of what Nintendo does on the daily, but in their case, they make games that sell 10-20 million copies consistenty so people sadly stop caring about all the times they fuck up. This is something I hope Xbox never becomes like.

You think saying we shouldn’t celebrate the birthdays of corporate executives trying to squeeze as much money as they can from people in dire circumstances, is excessive?

Ok.

A new controller color! Sigh

Again, stop being overdramatic, what does celebrating Phil’s birthday have anything to do with this.

Steam has been free forever and are doing better than ever, and Xbox is trying to convince people that they haven’t raised prices for forever so it’s OK. LOL

It’s going to be yellow and shortly after they announce they’re buying SEGA to publish games only on the Ouya.

Not gonna lie, a Series Elite controller would be a haymaker.

Because it feeds in to the narrative MS is trying to push. How many times does this have to keep happening for people to realize the whole “Phil is just like one of us!” thing is a marketing ploy.

I’ve already said this but you know there are things out of his control right? he can’t stop this if the board at MS want’s some more cash flow from the Xbox division, and not this isn’t me defending him. You can’t just erase the past of all the good things he has done because this one bad thing.
