If that was the truth, they wouldn’t have sued Meta + Within.

Meta does have a monopoly in a significant and profitable market (VR).

Except their argument was Meta has a monoply on fitness apps

Microsoft President Brad Smith is planning to meet with the Federal Trade Commission’s three Democratic members on Wednesday in a last-ditch bid to keep the tech giant’s blockbuster video-game deal from getting scrapped over antitrust concerns, The Post has learned.

Smith and a small group of his attorneys are slated to meet individually with FTC Chair Lina Khan — who is said to be skeptical of the tie-up and who this summer pledged to scrutinize the deal over its impact on workers — as well as Democratic commissioners Rebecca Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya, according to sources close to the situation.

On Sunday, The Post exclusively reported that at least one Democrat on the four-member panel has recently taken a sympathetic view of the merger — with insiders speculating it might be Slaughter — potentially paving the way for it to get approved. Republican FTC Commissioner Christine Wilson has already voiced support of the deal.

Dont know how reliable is the NYP but they are confident of their sources on their last report and now this.

Heavy hyperbole in that first paragraph.

Yeah

This time NY Post is showing their tabloid nature.

I honestly don´t know how to read it. It is positive because it shows Microsoft is going all in for it but also looks like a little desperate measure…

She overruled the decision of the staff basically saying “this is a waste of time” and had to drop the ridiculous case of considering within a competitor to META. It is clear to anyone but her she is just wasting time here.

IF true I think it just shows MS does not want this to drag in court (or whatever the next step is if the FTC sue to block) and, going by what the latest NYP article, make sure if Slaughter in on “their side”

After all if there is a possibility of this deal not getting challenged by the FTC (according to the NYP) and thus getting “rid” of one of the 4 biggest obstacles qhy not take it?

Wonder if we’ll hear regarding any sort of agreement if one is reached tomorrow

Probably some leaks.

It’s going to be approved by the FTC. :man_shrugging:

Oh wait Bloomberg is also reporting it! https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/microsoft-to-meet-with-ftc-chair-lina-khan-on-activision-deal-1.1855748

And withoutw sensationalims!

The antitrust agency is nearing a decision on the $69 billion deal, which would make Xbox-maker Microsoft into the No. 3 gaming company globally. A so-called last rites meeting between the companies and the FTC’s commissioners –- who make the final call and vote on any agency actions -– is often one of the last steps before either a lawsuit or a settlement are filed

European Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager said Tuesday on the sidelines of a conference in Washington that the EU hasn’t started negotiating with the company over a possible remedy.*

Maybe that NYP article about having a dem from the staff in their favor is actually legit :eyes:

The EC not negotiating yet isnt really a surprise though, wasnt it reported they arent meeting to discuss concessions until mid-December?
