Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Because in the last couple of weeks all the regulators finishe their investigation and the main ones initiated the phase 2.

But ABK/Microsoft negotiation was indeed very fast.

If there was a concession regarding game subscription services being able to access the ATVI catalog of games, I dont think it would be limited to PS Now. It would likely allow any subscription aervice provider to engage in whatever action they concede to.

It doesnt make sense to me though that such a deal would be required. There are many gaming publishers that competitors in the space can negotiate with for content. Aso for that matter, there are many more potential entrants to the game subscription services market.

Yeah, I agree. Look at EA or Ubisoft who have their own subs with their own content and they don’t need to bring third party publisher content there.

Hmm I just realized the the EU concessions would only be for the EU. So if FTC refuses MS’s concessions and goes to court, we might have the deal passing without concessions at all in the US.

@TheBrightestSun no concessions gang might be half alive!

The main point is to see if EU approves or not. If the plan of EU + CMA works out (who knows) FTC will probaby allow the deal. Still it is crazy that we need to placate the market leader. It would be akin Amazon buying MGM and then placating Disney.

I wish it was Disney/Fox era FTC, but alas. It is ironic that the curret FTC is one of the most unsuccessful but it just creates annoyance here and there.

Also 3 countries has already closed a deal without concessions anyway, but it does not matter :man_shrugging: SonyEurope celebrates.

Honestly even if they aren’t allowed to put titles on GamePass for 10 years, I can still see MS going for it.

Think of all the $$$ they are still going to make from ABK titles…

Maybe they will agree to not putting games day 1 for 10 years, and ABK games will come a year later.

I honestly do not care anymore about any kind of exclusivity, it’s something for MS to worry about, not me. If all ABK games keep coming to PS5, all good. As long as CoD old and new is day and date on Game Pass, and of course all the other ABK games.

Yeah not getting ABK and also losing 3 billion is worse than getting ABK and not being able to use gamepass (though I dont think theres any way that EVER happens). Regulators all have consumer benefits as one of the considerations and thats the biggest benefit to consumers. Theyll all tell Sony to pound :salt:

Not FTC though

Not being on GP would meddle with their entire strategy and marketing

“Play all out first party titles Day 1…except for you know, our biggest title CoD” isn’t exactly a great look and I don’t see it as something MS would accept at all

Offering Sony CoD on PS+ if they are willing to pay the appropriate costs is the route they’d go down before that

This deal would mean MS is making Call of Duty for Sony systems for all of PS5 and even PS6, so if I’m not reading this the wrong way MS would know what Sony is doing for PS6 and could change their next system to outpace the PS6 if they want to, too.

They would know regardless of deal. They release the games like Minecraft on PS for example.

That is true, but who is to say that would still be the case or that Minecraft 2 hasn’t been made and won’t be on the PS6.

That being said you are most likely going to be right and that game did slip my mind, so great catch on me forgetting about that.

I think Minecraft will stay Minecraft till the end of…Minecraft

I think there are potentially the games like TESO for example too if it comes to the future consoles and not stopped being supported.

I think these days the only real thing that they don’t know for certain is their competitors price points, Microsoft and Sony both seemed to dance around each other for a good while this generation waiting for the other one to announce their prices first.

Yup, they continue to not only support Minecraft but release spin off titles on other platforms. Hell, Minecraft Legends is a brand new Minecraft game coming out next year and it’s coming out on Switch and Playstation.

I think they whole inertia of Minecraft just prevents from making Minecraft 2 rather than ugrading the existing client. It is just too big to introduce Minecraft 2 and expect other people move to that game. Even Overwatch did something like that.

Still better than not owning ABK. Think of all the $$$ they will still make by selling these games for $70 day 1 on Xbox and all other consoles

Still it is crazy how anti-consumer, anti-competitive and anti-worker FTC is if FTC is trying to write a lawsuit against ABK deal. And all about just sending a message as they know they won’t win anyway.

I wonder if ABK are planning any kind of Gun and True Crime reboots soon?

Gun was effectively Red Dead Redemption (but released many years earlier).

True Crime was effectively a early 3D GTA clone but from a cop perspective with a much larger map (at the time).

I think they could be huge…

That’s the problem I found with some of the liberal agendas that I found as a liberal. Like championing your optics to the point where you have no choice but to do things that are counter-intuitive. As the more sensical party you can’t be as obstinate, myopic and tunnel-visioned as the Republicans. Give yourself an off-ramp once in a while.
