The sensible read of Gary’s tweet is that he is being facetious and they will have an emergency Xcast today.
he 100% is lol
Sad thing is when BC agreed to the Activision acquisition, they were hoping MS would swoop in and outbid Activision but unfortunately that never happened.
Honestly, I’d be happy if MS just slow down and cool it with the acquisitions. They have an insane number of studios now to manage. Even they can grow too big, too fast if they aren’t careful.
Gary got that british humour, he’s 90% being sarcastic
Because there is no way you can top a 70 billions dollars acquisition.
Ugh. Such a waste of a great studio. Much as i hate to say it i kinda wish they had been sent to the COD mines. At least they’d still be around now to possibly be freed assuming all if the talent hadn’t bailed.
Man seeing this go down on the TL live was unbelievable. Was walking my dog and this went from rumor to confirmed in like a 3 minute span.
COD Infinite when?
I was checking other Era and saw a thread that said something like “Microsoft owns Crash Bandicoot now” and i got really confused , then i scrolled down to see the Acquisition thread.
Anyone know what the studios in Shanghai work on?
Yeah I guess they could go even more agressive with third party deals, timed exclusivity, or they slow down with it, I’ve no idea.
MS stock down 2% as part of a sell-off in Tech due to incoming interest-rate rises.
As for Sony:
My reaction: WTFFF?! Still thinking this, TBH.
I’m not the biggest fan of acquisitions of large publishers. Bethesda was a private company, they looked to sell and Microsoft was a natural fit. In this case, things are different. Xbox is getting very valuable IP like Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and Crash, also big mobile IP, but really, I think this is all about Call of Duty Day 1 on Game Pass. Given the stock price for Activision Blizzard fell over the last year, this must have been a ‘now or never’ moment for Xbox. The amount of IP and talent they get is crazy. And who knows… Maybe we’ll get more E rated content such as Crash, Spyro and Banjo?!
I just hope we won’t result in all platform holders buying up the whole industry (say Sony gets Square and Capcom, then it’s about Ubisoft and Take Two etc.) so that in the end we don’t have any thirds left. It would probably result in us having to get multiple subscriptions in the end.
Activision went up a lot today. The effect and hope is strong.
This is Microsoft learning on the mistakes of Nokia, Zune, Music and movies endeavors. They will not let the gaming aspect fail.
They have enough cash assets to buy either SE, Capcom or Konami in my opinion. Plus the Take-2 purchase shows that they don’t have to use straight up stocks. But Sony is going to HAVE to respond if they are creating a gamepass competitor. And like that staff member stated they can’t rely on just timed exclusivity.
Unfortunately, some like to think and see things in extremes. This isn’t good for Sony, but they’ll be fine.
Yeah, up 25%. Today is a game-changer for the entire industry, and beyond looking at Netflix and Amazon.
It helps that they already are in gaming and were good (although sometimes inconsistent) with it. No need to learning things from 0, they just need to be consistent
