Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Jim Ryan is an absolute clown….I hope after this little stunt, Phil says :man_shrugging:t2: welp screw ya and just makes everything exclusive.

Oh brother, Jim really should have kept his mouth shut.

Sadly, this is something the gaming community is leaning too much into, leading what should have been a hobby everybody enjoy to a toxic wasteland.

It’s almost like during those extra 3 years time, a contract could have been negotiate to keep CoD on Playstation. But let’s not tell mr Ryan that.

Between Ryan declining the offer and Sonys recent actions these regulators (after digging into the deal & industry as a whole) CoD might not need to stay multiplat after the current deal.

I know that sounds crazy but the 4 biggest platforms (Xbox, PS, Switch, Steam) only 2 of them have Cod and one of those two (Xbox) is in last place so just maybe CoD isn’t as key as people think. Key for Sony maybe but key for a competitive industry not so much.

Obviously Xbox wants CoD on PS but PlayStation could decline offers somewhat crippling CoD and lowering its value. Until MS slap CoD on steam and switch and mobile.

I might be crazy but Tuchel got sacked from Chelsea today so it’s crazy times.

Reminder that:

  • Microsoft didn’t shut down updates on Minecraft for Playstation and Nintendo, instead it keep as it is with Mojang games still being multiplatform.
  • Honoured Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo exclusivity deals.
  • Didn’t remove a single game from acquired studios from rival companies, instead it even allowed legacy content to be ported such as Quake.
  • Allowed Deathloop to be on Playstation Plus Extra.

Meanwhile Sony:

  • Bought Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo exclusivity knowing Xbox was a main partner for Zenimax marketing deals including early weeks DLC, by this logic they should have been on Xbox only in the first place
  • Tried to snag Starfield which would made Zenimax essentially a second party publisher.
  • Bought a year of mode exclusivity on Call of Duty Modern Warfare and others, while back at Microsoft it was three months.
  • Made all SE main input exclusive.

They will bring all this stuff into CMA and whatever courts they may feel it is necessary, stuff like this will be served as examples.

If CMA rejects the acquisition, Microsoft could simply feel that all their efforts are not rewarded and could go nuclear by removing Minecraft and others from rivals and blame entirely on both them and Sony, althrough I hope this part won’t happen because I feel its completely unncessary to hit people unrelated to it.

Just read about that Tuchel thing, crazy decision

Maybe all those people on here who belittled others for expecting CoD to eventually be exclusive should think next time before doing so. This statement specifically states that it is Xbox’s intent to do exactly that.

It will boil down to a settlement in a mid case scenario, Sony releases X stuff into Xbox while Xbox allows COD permanently multiplatform.

There’s absolutely no evidence to support this claim, nor is that at all related to the point of the post I made to the community.

I don’t believe Jim Ryan. It’s direct contradiction of what Microsoft/Xbox is saying.

I know right! Aubameyang Hasn’t even played yet.

Ryan throwing his toys out of the pram over the fact playstation will lose the marketing deal (that’s all these overtures are about) is rather hilarious…

Typical of him.

Its simple, make all their hits available to Xbox or… Just make Gamepass available as described a year ago.

It is not a direct contradiction to what Phil was saying on the Bloomberg interview when the question was asked about CoD being on PS in perpetuity (happy to timestamp). Ryan’s statement reads like a very bitter version of that response.

You all have to realize too that there is a fair amount of lawyer speak in these; eventually removing availability of one 100 million platform whilst providing access to billions more (through mobile, PC, and xcloud) is still very much in line with everything even Brad Smith has said about wanting to make games available to more players. Look beyond the console war perspective that forums and the majority of gaming media have been trying to shovel down players’ throats.

The way Jim Ryan said it, after those 3 years COD is gone from Playstation. That’s not what Phil and others have been saying. Can there be an exclusive COD game? Absolutely. Is COD Warzone being pulled from Playstation? Hell no. It’s not until the “continue to have the highest quality Call of Duty experience” part of his statement that COD still being on Playstation in some fashion is acknowledged. It’s a very loaded statement.

“inadequate on many levels” Ok, which are???

this is sooo vague  Don’t be a coward, tell us how you really feel Jimmy!

And he said three years, which was speculated last week that COD would remain multiplatform for this whole generation at least. No company will make extremely long terms on anything if it also goes down with contracts, Microsoft could also be considering to go beyond that if they feel like it, but imagine if Xbox sales-services go into a massive growth route while PS5 goes down? They could easily drop it just like… Some developers did with Xbox One (cough Square).

Microsoft strategy is to keep legacy content which also makes good rep with players and regulators, and honor contracts with earns good arguments with the latter, they are offering a deal you wouldn’t expect Sony to do unless with existing games.

LMAO , Jim. The absolute balls on this fucking guy!

Phil said that Microsoft would continue to put COD on playstation for ‘several’ games. The Oxford dictionary definition is:

several-more than two but not many
