Phil said he wants to bring it to Switch, which is a fantastic idea as they’ll bring in a shit load more money.
Again this is going to be a massive deal and just think of all this revenue will be able to put to use for more exclusive games elsewhere. COD doesn’t need to be exclusive for this deal to bring Xbox much closer to #1
PlayStation currently has a larger share of the console gaming market than Xbox,
but the CMA considers that Call of Duty is sufficiently important that losing access to
it (or losing access on competitive terms) could significantly impact Sony’s revenues
and user base. This impact is likely to be felt especially at the launch of the next
generation of consoles, where gamers make fresh decisions about which console to
buy. The CMA believes that the Merger could, therefore, significantly weaken
Microsoft’s closest rival, to the detriment of overall competition in console gaming.
So it’s ok to do this sort of stuff if you don’t own the company and are the market leader, not only that but use those tactics at the start of the gen to convice people to buy their console.
Holy shit did Sony really rely on COD that much these regulators also think Sony would be doomed without COD.
Yeah, I think Microsoft is going to do just about anything to get this done. It’s part of the reason I get confused about the whole “exclusive vs multiplat” discussion.
I think it’s clear CoD will stay multiplat, no matter how much people want to dance around previous statements made. If it went exclusive, I think that not only would it make it harder for this deal to go through, but it’ll be something for regulators to look at in future deals.
It’s ridiculous and I don’t see how anyone is actually taking that claim seriously. Sony will be perfectly fine without COD, yes it would hurt them massively but look at Nintendo.
