CMA to go into phase 2

Apparently MS and ABK would have until September 8 to offer an undetaking to remedy CMA’s concerns in Phase 1, or otherwise they will go into Phase 2.

Basically Sony is fucked without Call of Duty.

If by Sep 8 provides some additional info then Phase 2 might be skipped and merger will be approved I guess.

The hilarious thing is

When Sony is one company that is engaged in harming the consumer :joy:

Yeah, there is some hilarious tidbits in it, like them saying with MS owning ABK, it could severely limit access to ABK’s content.

Another interesting tidbit

I wonder which company engages in exclusive deals with ABK regarding COD that makes Xbox lose access on competitive terms

I imagine this would put a stop to any fully exclusive COD games.

i;d like some anaylsis as to why Microsoft buying something like Call of Duty is something that should be protected, for a private business’ case?

We are not talking about national infrastructure, but entertainment. just curious as to why that needs to be protected

Not really. That’s the thing with COD - it has too many different games from mainline to F2P.

Shame we won’t know Microsoft’s response but considering their response to brazilian regulators, it will be spicy (if it not prepared already) as Sony has the bigger market share yet owns exclusive marketing deals on COD with exclusive content + F2P games will stay available anyway. Throw in COD stopping being annual… I guess their respose will be along those lines.

Was to be expected. Any acquisition this size is going to be closely scrutinized and that is one of the reasons Microsoft gave such a long period to get the deal completed

It’s nuts reading shit like this after half the shit Sony does…

The CMA believes the Merger could allow Microsoft to make ABK content, including Call of Duty, exclusive to Xbox or Game Pass, or otherwise degrade its rivals’ access to ABK content, such as by delaying releases or imposing licensing price increases. This type of concern is known as ‘input foreclosure’, where a firm uses its control of an important input to harm its rivals.

I’m sure Microsoft are gonna roll in there and point to the MANY times Sony has done this shit to Xbox and there were no questions from ANYONE raised by these practices, no one was worried about poor Xbox when it was almost shut down. I think COD is going to remain multiplat more than ever and I am ok with that because look how much Sony is squirming over losing marketing rights.

I think Microsoft and their lawyers would have so much data points that this probably won’t reach Phase 2.

In doing so, we will pursue a principled path. We’ve heard that this deal might take franchises like Call of Duty away from the places where people currently play them. That’s why, as we’ve said before, we are committed to making the same version of Call of Duty available on PlayStation on the same day the game launches elsewhere.

They’re not mincing their words, I hope this is over for the whole cod exclusive stuff now, it was never going to happen.

For those who are now upset it’s not exclusive or think it’s a stupid move, it’s not because this is a play for PC/Mobile and getting COD on game pass forever without question. Game Pass alone is a huge play and it will bring more people over without a doubt.

Yeah, I don’t know what they need more.

You can clearly see MS doesn’t want to get into Phase 2, they wil want it done as soon as possible, or get to court to get it.
