Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

That and he literally steps through all of the legal tools the FTC has at its disposable that make the assumption that “Microsoft has provided their reply for information so 30 days” factually inaccurate.

how so? its a pretty accurate title. As numerous other countries still need to approve this, and if you just read headlines, you could be under the impression that this deal is closing in August, and that is not how it works. As even if the FTC would let the window expire, the UK has there own timeline, as does Australia, the Netherlands, etc. So it’s not like ABK or MS are popping bottles in august. The earliest the UK would complete its process is fall, and that’s only if it doesn’t find any issues.

So a title of its not as close as you think. Is pretty accurate. As people online are talking like we are just 2 to 3 weeks away and that’s just not true. As to many other countries have to weigh in first. Each with their own process.

You make a lot of posts about how things are comical, or comedy gold, or never cease to amaze you

It’s a tiring angle

Almost as tiring as people like yourself who refute expertise and replace it with fantasy.

Actual layer who has dealt with the FTC vs John Q Gamer: Internet warrior.

I don’t know if the deal is done by mid august. I feel people probaby are being too optimistic

That said, regardless of how much I believe in Hoeg’s experience, I suspect he knew exactly what a headline like that would do

I don’t disagree with that. But it is YouTube and analytics prove that trash headlines get clicks. It’s gross and I wish it wasn’t reality, but sadly it is.

And unfortunately I know most people (not anyone here necessarily) won’t sit and watch the full 30+ minutes of it like I did. Most will read the headline and run with it.

You really think that was his objective? He probably got dm’d up the wazzu about this thanks to Timdog and said to himself well I have to make a video or they won’t stop asking.

I assume “priority zero” once ABK goes through would be addressing the gross workplace culture problems they have. How is something like that approached? Are there 3rd party firms that specialize in that or something?

We don’t know how they will approach those issues but Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella himself stated that changing the culture of ABK is one of their priorities once the acquisition is done:

“As CEO of Microsoft, the culture of our organization is my number one priority. This means we must continuously improve the lived experience of our employees and create an environment that allows us to constantly drive every day improvement in our culture.

“This is hard work. It requires consistency, commitment and leadership that not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. That’s why we believe it’s critical for the Activision Blizzard to drive forward on its renewed cultural commitments. We are supportive of the goal and the work Activision Blizzard is doing, and we also recognize that after close, we will have significant work to do in order to continue to build a culture where everyone can do their best work.

“And this isn’t just for about employees. Our journey of inclusion extends to creating a welcoming and safe community for all our customers, including the hundreds of millions of players who enjoy our games and interactive services. We are committed to protecting players and empowering our employees to do what they love while thriving in a safe and inclusive culture, one where everyone is invited to play. The success of this acquisition will depend on it.”

You know other problem MS might need to address once the acquisition goes through? (although obviously not in the same league as fixing ABK’s culture problems)

What will they do with all the e-sport scene the acquisition brings with it? last time I’ve heard, overwatch’s and COD tournaments (or whatever they are called) were not in good terms with Acti…will MS bother to solve that or just let them die or forget about them? I think these aspect could bring a huge boost to MS’s gaming in the future now that the apparently looking to ad, well, ads in some capacity to games and the fact the will have a huge slate of competitive games.

What do you mean they aren’t on good terms with Activision? The CDL (Call of Duty League) is made by Activision.

MS is already pumping money into esports (Halo, Gears) and they want to expand to other titles. Having AB esports infrastructure can bring all of this under one umbrella. So, I expect more investment from MS side in this area. Look what Sony is doing with EVO and their recent purchase. Esports is something where you want to be relevant.

I expect Forza Motorsport to be developed with eSports in mind too.

Fun fact which isn’t supposed to predict any date or anything but it took the EU 130 days to start their investigation of MS + Zenimax. It has currently been 184 days since MS announced the ABK deal. Again not trying to say anything just a fun thing.

So, China will be the last one we will hear from then.

Does anyone know how much EU takes in this phase?

I don’t know the specifics of how they operate, but in Bethesda’s case they announced they were investigating it February 1st and it cleared by March 8th. Microsoft announced the deal had officially closed the next day.

Ok thanks!

Hope we hear from them something as quickly as the Zenimax acquisition. And there will be only China left. It seems Brazil is also reviewing the deal.
