Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Nothing specific. Just that the reality is that it isnt open/shut like a lot of people want to believe.

Keep in mind, Hoeg still thinks its a 90% chance it passes unscathed. 10% is a non zero sum.

And did he not say that the deal would go through?

No not that part directly, he is explaining how the way the FTC defines market and subsequently competition isn’t likely to line up with how Satya’s statement frames things. He notes that Satya admits as much later in the interview.

He expects it to yeah. That doesn’t mean we all can’t learn from his analyses. It is not anywhere near as simplistic say many proponents of the deal here or elsewhere online pretend it is. It isn’t clear cut and involves a small amount of politics and a lot of judgement that depends on the arguments the deal’s proponents/opponents put forward.

If that isn’t up your alley you can simply not click the vid.

Not this again.

Yes Hoeg knows more about this subject matter than us. But he also knows less than the people who actually represent MS.

Let’s just wait and see how this all plays out instead of going around in circles and repeating the same talking points over and over again.

It’s going to pass through whether people like it or not. Your best bet is to not live on this planet anymore.

Good on Destin for following up his other video with the source. I cut the guy some slack though, since he has a lot of irons in the fire with his cookie business, IGN stuff, and making his own content.

i think after talking about this last night with my friend luke we both are coming around the idea of cod possibly staying multi if a concession is needed for it to pass even if thats the case xbox would still have the advantage with day 1 releases in game pass plus they can still be very aggressive with things like exclusive content and xbox would have all the marketing rights much like the 360 days so either way we win but i still think its going exclusive but time will tell

So what are the impacts of the exclusivity information on how fast this deal goes through?

Sooner the games come to Gamepass the better

As soon as the CoD games starts coming to Gamepass this deal is done deal for me atleast

I am not a lawyer, so obviously conjecture on my part, but I would wager this expedites the entire process by a fair amount.

Lol, reading Hoeg’s tweets about it all today is pretty entertaining.

It would be hilarious that after all the talk over this deal, it goes through the FTC without a full investigation lol.

I certainly would get a laugh out of it.

Are we moving the discussion here?

Personally I’m still waiting for FF7 Remake to hit Xbox presumably due to PS buying exclusivity to console for a still unknown period of time. This is still raw in my mind and coming up to 2 years since release with no clarity of when to expect this to come to the console I chose to play on. This bearing in mind is not a game by a developer that PS owns nor is it listed definitively as an exclusive as far as I’m aware. There is no clarity for consumers in this case, which I have no doubt is deliberate.

With this in mind I find it difficult to hear that games from (future) MS first party studios will continue to release on PS. I can only hope that discussions between the two companies have led to these decisions. By that I mean that there is an agreement to cease these exclusivity deals in future.

It is not for me about keeping games from other platforms. It is about my concerns when the other platforms are already doing this to the platform I chose.
