Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

No idea, they had hits every single month. The service is phenomenal.

After Outriders at the beginning of the year, it was mostly a dead year until Q4.

MS needs to have hits every quarter, every month eventually when the studios pump out their games. A stacked quarter isn’t enough for a subscription, and in those months without a first party drop, day 1 deals are needed for new third parties.

I want Heretic and Hexen so much on Xbox. It is one of my main reasons of being excited about this acquisition.

Thinking about BLIZZARD’s acquisition: beside the future sequela/reboot of great IPs as StarCraft and Warcraft RTS, spin-off of this titles (for example Starftact Ghost) we didn’t consider how big It Will be the franchising: i can see possible new movie or TV series (Amazon and Netflix) for la the big franchises. Warcraft Is the best candidate due the First movie and the Fantasy world which could be perfect for the TV series. Really excited for the future.

For now, XBOX has

Cuphead Netflix Fallout (Amazon) Elder scroll (Netflix. This Is a rumor from a legit guy)

We could have

COD Warcraft StarCraft DIABLO and Overwatch (there were rumors but Nothing to be confirmed)

Phil Spencer Is the Savior of this Company: most of cancelled games from BLIZZARD have been a decision of the fucking KOTIK.

Don’t forget about the Halo series coming from Paramount later this year.

Also, I gotta ask… What’s with the random capitalisation of the first letter in some words?

About the first letter: i always write with smartphone, this is the reason. So many times keyboard made gramma mistakes.

Gotcha. Makes sense, as I imagine your dictionary is set to Italian, and it doesn’t know what to do with all these gibberish English words. :yum:

Exactly. Writing in english, many times the keyboard itself looks at me Saying: what are you f…g doing"?

So you’re giving them a pass for Forza and Halo which we have always gotten, a game that we were already getting( did MS money make the game better? Sure) Flight Sim is technically new for console but it’s not really a game per se. We’ve been waiting for Xbox to have a “must own” exclusive. Maybe Starfield will be the one.

Yes, the games are coming but they are still stuck in the back half of the year. Hopefully they learn to throw us a bone throughout the year.

Will Candy Crush end up on Xbox?

If so hopefully it loses some of the monetisation. Bejewelled works well and if MS want people to use cloud gaming on mobile devices that’s the stuff they need - assuming separate app of Candy Crush isn’t available.

Steve Jobs always did love Sony. His famous turtle neck was something he had specially made to be his personal uniform because he liked how Sony employees back in the day had nice uniforms.

Calm down. If Game Pass isn’t producing enough for you then hold off for a while. But not only we’re there several excellent games released last year on Day 1 and overall but they only JUST added Bethesda and purchased Activision. The huge games all the time situation is still coming but I’m more than getting my $15/month worth right now.

What’s going on here? Halo came out like 7 weeks ago. It’s straight up bizarre to say that Game Pass doesn’t have anything until the second half of the year. Rainbow Six and Nobody Saves the World came out this month. If you want to say that nothing you like is confirmed to be coming out Day 1 then okay fine. But it’s just odd to presume anything about the first half of this year, particularly when so many awesome games have arrived recently. Hell, I’ve been playing It Takes Two with my girlfriend and we’re loving it.

The selection of monthly games is always ranging from good to great, but it was excellent only when huge releasea landed in the sub, because you get new subs (almost) only through that, it’s a common rule for every subscription (the Stranger Things and the Mandalorian lure people), indies, AA and relatively old/new AAA release certainly keep already subscribed people and move some new subs, but no substantial growth.

You’ll see with COD day one on GP, the numbers will skyrocket like never seen before.

Totally. That’s part of the calculation in purchasing Activision. They have something like 300 active monthly users across all of their games and platforms. If they can even convert 1/3 of those to Game Pass, that could be like $12 billion annual revenue for those additions alone, not even including traditional game sales, mobile, DLC, etc.

I guess I understand people saying that Microsoft wants a big hit coming out every quarter and that’s not happening yet. But with the number of studios, it’s weird to me that we’re complaining about the first 6 months of 2022 when the games are obviously coming and the service is already killer right now (in my opinion at least). Not sure why anyone here cares when Microsoft hits the next Game Pass milestone, as long as the service is still worthwhile for them personally.

I probably just need to get over this position. Clearly some folks are just going to keep railing against Microsoft’s output until they start delivering more exclusives much faster… It just remains odd because I don’t personally need CoD or Diablo or Crash to make Game Pass worthwhile but I’m stoked I’ll probably be getting them.

MS has still A LOT to prove 1st party wise, both from quality and consistency of releases, that’s why people are underwhelmed by another dry half of the year (myself included).

I understand if any one person feels that way from the standpoint of their personal preferences. However, 2021 really signaled the sea change to me. XGS/Bethesda delivered Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, Flight Sim Console and Deathloop (which I understand people not “counting” but it’s a game from one of their studios nonetheless). Those are some pretty universally praised games in a single year, most of which launched Day 1 on Game Pass.

Maybe none sell on the level of a CoD-type but obviously they have a plan for accomplishing that in the future.

Also, I’m still factoring in a little grace due to Covid too, which I tend to think makes last year all the more impressive.

IDK, Halo and Forza have always been Xbox staples and excellent series, there was really nothing new under the sun, expecially for people never really attracted by the ecosystem. Also the schedule was backloaded like this year. Considering COVID it’s understandable, but from 2023 there will be no excuse for another half empty year, expecially from a GP perspective: it will be unhealty for the sub growth and it’s also more expensive to pay 3rd party publishers for their games (if they give them, which is not guaranteed).

This also shows another fact: how desert was 1st party organisation before 2018 and it will took years to become a well oiled machine.
