Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT4| - Dawn of the Final Day, Deal is done!

Except when an ABK game drops as an exclusive and the whole thing starts up again. Microsoft took games away from us/they promised not to do that

That true we pretty much know the roadmap for the mourning/grief component of the transaction now with Bethesda having released Starfield.

Hopefully the feedback is all “this is fine no issues here” so they can just say we’ve received feedback that there is no issues therefore we can approve the deal today (6th) as there is no need to review feedback.

Pls

Not even convinced they will get feedback - who would actually care right now?

That said British bureaucracy won’t move at that sort of pace and there will need to be a report it will need approval it will need to be signed off. I doubt we hear anything till middle next week at earliest.

MS and Google are at each other’s throats right now, so if they’re trying to be petty they might.

I guess the only issue would be that the comment period ends on the 6th, likely they will be taking comments until their probably 5PM British time. I wouldn’t expect anything on the 6th.

Many companies would see this as a serious challenge. However, I believe Microsoft is capable to play it smart and get it back in short time. They likely learned the benefit of long term from Minecraft, which many dunked on them to say it was a bad investment. Closing it here before MW3 release will give them a strong head start to get back what they spent.

lol people thinking ms is worried about making the back 79 billion or so in the next year or something.

My thoughts too! Nothing is going to happen on the 7-8th (weekend) either, then the CMA will need a couple days to review the comments and make a decision so we’re likely looking at the 10th minimum, but probably later.

They also view the purchase as an asset that will grow in value, I don’t think they care about the entity itself making back the cost of purchase since the whole company makes so much money anyway. Didn’t they already basically make the money they are spending on it back during this prolonged regulation period?

These people don’t seem to understand book value….

Microsoft’s net income last fiscal year (July '22 - June '23) was $73B. They’ve made way more than that since January '22…

Thats what I figured, and they used “cash on hand” to pay for it If I recall correctly which was not going to increase in value on its own so its better to buy something with it.

As much as I do like Brad, I wouldn’t take his business advice or comments very seriously as it’s a little out of his wheelhouse. ABK peaked at $101, Microsoft bought them at $95 and that’s including the premium. If Microsoft went to purchase them at $101 they’d have to pay a $40 premium which would bring it to $141 or around $140B :exploding_head:

One thing I noticed is Microspft made fewer acquisitions in 2022 then then did in 2021. In 2021 they had something like 15 (including Zenimax). In 2022 they had 6. They curbed their buying habits since.

I don’t agree with his comments but I’m pretty sure his background involves an MBA so these are things that he should be aware of at a high level.

Where did you get that from, first time I’m hearing that. Anyway the share price wasn’t remotely at its peak when they bought them. The main reason why ABK probably agreed to be bought was because MS offered their near peak levels at one of their low points.

This is all withholding the fact the money was just sitting in the bank anyway and doesn’t factor in at all the million of little other things like potentially more console sales which could lead onto more gp subs and so on, so even looking at financial results for ABK right now wouldn’t include the full picture.

News to me, but doesn’t change my opinion :sweat_smile:I doubt Microsoft would’ve fought this hard for it over this long if they couldn’t add up the numbers, they had plenty of time to drop the deal if it looked unfavourable as time went on. It would be much easier to take his stance if you just look at console, it would be much more difficult to put a $69b purchase as worthwhile if it was just to sell more consoles and that’s the sole purpose.

The deal is about console, subs, pc, mobile, advertising and huge IP which would be hard for someone outside to do the math on the value of the deal as it impacts too many things.

Anyway time will tell like always, I’m just happy to never pay for cod again
