Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT4| - Dawn of the Final Day, Deal is done!

Theoretically yes? You’d still have to buy a copy of the game from MS though, and I’m not sure how exactly it would all work since I can’t imagine Sony being ok with linking their users to the Microsoft store in any meaningful way. Plus, Sony would have to pay for the port, which would be money going straight to Microsoft, which again, I can’t see them being ok with.

It’s still not free. Sony, Nintendo or any streaming service would still have to pay Ubisoft to gain the ability to stream the game. In addition, if the streaming service requires additional work due to the OS (think Stadia and how it required a port to Linux), that would be an additional cost.

In all likelihood, this will just result in Microsoft hiring a third party developer to make the requested port (if needed).

Realistically, the only thing they lose in this remedy is the exclusivity of the streaming rights for the ABK back catalog (1980s until 2028). Starting in 2029, Microsoft will gain exclusivity of the streaming rights for all future ABK titles (2029 and onward).

Sony isn’t about to open up their walled garden. To allow streaming from a third party or even a browser means the chance someone doesn’t buy from them.

This is the same company that denied EA Access because it conflicted with ps plus. They said it wasn’t a good value.

So now that things look like they are going to go through, what are welooking at in terms of game releases from ABK? All that I’m aware of is COD MW3 and Odyssey.

Work with Disney and get those old Spider-Man games relisted via backwards compatibility

Awesome news!! Sooner this becomes officially wrapped up, we can get Diablo IV on Game Pass!!! Let’s go baby!!!

And side note, Microsoft then needs to give Lars Wingefors a call for some of the studios at Embracer, mainly Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal and im hoping 4A Games, Dambuster and Gunfire Games come packaged in along with several IP’s like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Metro, Dead Island, Remnant and Darksiders.

Doesn’t the deal made with Tencent kind of protect them from an acquisition (hostile or otherwise) in the near term? I’m pretty sure Tencent is unable to sell or increase their stake over the next few years. That combined with the Guillemot’s shares would make it very difficult to buy them.

Officially COD MW3 and Odyssey.

Unofficially there is of course going to be more COD. There is also the rumored new IP from Infinity Ward and former Bioware developers.

I fully expect that Toys for Bob will be allowed to continue working on platformers like Crash, Spyro and hopefully Banjo. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a remake of Tony Hawk 3 & 4.

I also think the return of Guitar Hero is a real possibility. It would be a great addition to Game Pass, and Microsoft certainly has the ability to produce the necessary peripherals. An extra benefit is the peripherals could be compatible with Rock Band, which is another revenue generator given that Microsoft is a platform holder.

Finally, there are the licensed IPs. While Activision may not have been interested in re-licensing most of it, I could definitely see Microsoft considering it. Marvel, Transformers, James Bond, there is a lot there to consider.

On the Marvel side you have Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, X-Men: Origins - Wolverine, Deadpool and multiple Spider-Man games (the movie based titles may be difficult). Hasbro has already shown interest in re-licensing the Transformer IP, so if it’s technically feasible I don’t see why it can’t happen. As for Bond, Microsoft already has a relationship with Danjaq LCC through their licensing deal with Goldeneye 007 remaster, so it may be possible to do the same for the 360/PS3 titles such as Bloodstone, Quantum of Solace, and Goldeneye 007 Reloaded.

Can you imagine Arkane getting to work on Deus Ex?

Obviously, the press release from CMA was pretty clear enough about this getting final approval in the next couple weeks, but that Bloomberg video interview with Sarah Cardell from the CMA is very clear that this is a done deal at this point with just the bow being put on it with final process and paperwork. This is going to be awesome for gamers to have so many great IPs with potential under the umbrella of Xbox and Microsoft instead of Activision only, not to mention tons of games coming to Game Pass.

Ah yes I forgot about that, they can’t increase their shares until 2030 and can’t sell there shares until 2027.

If I was Microsoft, I’ll start preparing for ads galore for holidays.

Feels weird to see this coming to an end

It’s been a while and I promised I wouldn’t post em too much, just sometimes. I can enjoy it now and then, especially now, lol.

I’m confused again does Microsoft regain cloud rights after 2038? Today it seems wording is different here.

Originally, I believed that Ubisoft acquired the streaming rights for all ABK titles from the 1980s to 2038. They would retain these rights in perpetuity. After which, Microsoft would gain the streaming rights for all future ABK titles released after 2038.

However, as per Idas, it seems like it may not be all ABK titles. Here is the list:

  • 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures
  • Aces of the Galaxy
  • Blizzard Arcade Collection
  • Call of Duty
  • Call of Duty 2
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Visited it once, not knowing what I was about to walk into, in my experience it was basically the most cultist and toxic PlayStation fanboys you can imagine all together in their own forum, no device of mine has ever visited that forum ever again after that, I saw some of the most insane and divorced from reality takes there.
