It’s just crazy to me how this can keep getting extended and extended with seemingly no end in sight, jesus. What a pain in the butt, damn. And can there be a phase 3 too or just more extensions? Surely there has to be a end to it?
If the cma go to phase 2 the deal is dead. Finished. Over.

Indeed, after that trial it seemed CMA was finally starting to work with MS instead of being nothing but hardheaded.
I wouldn’t say they are irrelevant, they can still be harmful specially since their motives aren’t particularly honest and more politically motivated. I think the post is more to call out the FTC to stopped once and for all since they are basically making MS waste resources that would accomplish nothing.
Also doesn’t hurt to show how idiotic the FTC position by demonstrating how literally everyone from every corner of the political spectrum supports this merger.
If the CMA goes to phase 2, I presume Microsoft will work to have CAT dismantle the CMA at their trial in October.
Microsoft is certainly not walking away without a fight over 4.5 billion dollars and a massive investment.
I still dont have a good feeling about the CMA next week, but I am jaded over the process thus far.

Microsoft isnt dropping it. We’d be in for the CAT tribunal fight should they do that. Microsoft has tried absolutely everything in their power to work with the CMA and if the CMA refuses despite that, then Mocrosofts lone optiona for the future will be to have the CMAs powers checked. Theyd work to have precedent of CAT checking the CMAs powers set (no claim of if theyd be successful but I think that the path theyd pursue). They will have future acquisitions and have to work with the CMA so if they are unwilling then Microsoft needs to do their best to limit the CMAs extent of power.

Agree. I’m confident no sudden tricks from the CMA, it was clear that during the last CMC with CAT, they emphasized that this new deal could be the one concession that might satisfies them.
I expect things to be wrapped up by Halloween 2023.
So I’m planning how I’m going to play a bunch of great games (and not so great games, for research) until then and at that point I’ll be on this forum and see a “Diablo 4 added to Gamepass” thread and be pleasantly surprised.

Man, to think this deal was essentially “dead” at one point, it has been some recovery.
It was not in doubt after the new concessions as they directly addressed the concerns of the CMA and in my opinion went too far from a competition perspective.
