Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT4| - Dawn of the Final Day, Deal is done!

Thanks, that’s good to know. October it is then!

Are you sure it will be? Not trying to sound pessimistic but at this point I expect them to announce phase 2 or that they need more time in october

Best to wait than keep thinking down the line. August was like a hopeful one but October is the deadline. Not sure if they can do extension without fee and what not. So just wait for it.

Just my thoughts: MS and ABK will close at the latest October 18th 2023, with or without CMA approval.

Probably this. If the CMA CMA’s, then they’ll just close the deal and file their appeal with the CAT once again. They bent over backwards to acquiesce to the CMA’s demands, so no one can say they didn’t operate in good faith.

I don’t see the CMA doing any shenangians going forward, they’ve got what they wanted in a big divestment

The cloud argument was already stupid but there was always the chance that CAT could agree with the CMA and block

The cloud argument is completely dead with this deal, so what would be their excuse for blocking it? If this went to CAT I’m not sure how they wouldn’t get torn apart

Persona too

I wouldnt be against nintendo versions if nintendo dont have garbage hardware

But if sony plan to block FF and pay for games like genshin to be exlusive. Fuck sony.

I honestly don’t see much chance this doesn’t close in early October, but if for some reason it needs to be extended, so long as they’re both still confident it’s moving forward I can see Microsoft and Activision working out another dividend like the last one. 99 cents per share worked out to somewhere around 780 million extra, and it’s not impossible for them to do it again if they had to, even possibly increasing it slightly to keep investors happy. But looking at the stock price, people are happy still. Either way, it’ll close eventually one way or another.

Jez has been really going hard at the shitposting and engagement farming today

Even Hoeg has been, claiming MS got played by the CMA even though MS knew back in July that they wouldnt close until October

I’m not sure why people are so surprised. MS and CMA literally explained that a new phase 1 was the end goal with a new proposal for the deal. Nothing of what has happened today is new aside from Ubisoft being the chosen company to hold the ABK streaming rights. The only thing I’m hoping is for an expedite review, the CMA already have enough knowledge on the case to get to a conclusion way before the deadline but knowing them they might want to drag this to the very end.

It does make sense on why Microsoft took a while since it did involve a sit down with another company, that ended up being Ubisoft.

You know what I find funny? Now that the deal has even more chances to go through than ever, somehow the takes out there are worst/far more stupid than when the acquisition was all but dead :v

It is odd seeing all of the reactions that seem to paint this as a massive delay when the reality is that mid-October is only 7 weeks away.

When it comes to an 18 month process, it’s akin to hitting a snooze button.

Personally, I’m only concerned about what this means for other potential acquisitions. This solution seems to be going above and beyond to the point where MS seems to want to position themselves nicely for future acquisitions, whether gaming or not.

Meanwhile, question, how does affect the acquisition of King? Answer, it doesn’t.

Microsoft wins.

I think Microsoft should just register all new ABK games under Xbox and have Activision just be publisher. Ubisoft can have the publisher streaming rights for a time but not in perpetuity as the games will be Xbox not Acti Bliz and the true streaming rights will be under Xbox.

Indeed, with PC gaming handhelds the streaming thing might never take off big, Future mobile devices might have the power to natively play games who even knows what the future of tv’s will be like. This annoying CMA mandate I pray comes to bite them bad.

I would hope they’ve learnt from this and as much as possible structure their contracts around rogue regulators like the CMA. It may just like some have said go back to buying individual studios. I would love to see them get SEGA though or if possible, just buy out some IPs like SONIC.

Some people are expensive, for a reason.

Anything is only expensive if you dont get value from the/it.

Clearly MS thought she would be worth it.
