Honestly, we don’t really know what the full details and limitations are yet. The only thing that was mentioned was a Linux based version. So, this could possibly only apply to dedicated streaming services that are not windows based and not one-off game streaming scenarios that you occasionally see on Switch.
The deal was clearly structured to end in August/September. It is very clear by the penalties and timing and discussion with CAT that the plan was to close this ahead of mid september.
In theory they could, in reality they won’t bother. Just taking the PC version and throwing some Playstation/Switch button icons on the screen is as far as they’re going to go because that’s the most cost-effective way of doing business.
Once this deal closes, can Microsoft ever get back the streaming rights?
From my loose understanding, MS will get back the rights in 15 years, but the cloud streaming rights for everything ABK released in the past all the way up to the end of those 15 years will remain with Ubisoft basically forever. MS just won’t have to license their own stuff from Ubisoft after the 15 years are up. At least, I think that’s what it means. Who knows.
Yeah. Buy Ubisoft in 15 years.

Recommended read. CMA did bad work.
Sony wouldn’t have a hard time making them excluaive. They would just do it
Ubisoft is buying the streaming rights for all ABK content from the first game to the last game in 15 years (2038) and they have the rights for those games forever, after 2038 all future games goes to Microsoft.

Basically…this is a puppet deal.
-
MS is selling 15 years of Streaming rights to Ubisoft and will only sell to Ubisoft.
-
Ubisoft is forbidden from selling these rights in the UK, EU and a few other territories.
-
The rights are offered exclusively to the highest bidder, thus a free and fair system the CMA wanted.
-
The expectation is Microsoft will be the bidding winner for most, if not all territories.
-
CMA saves face, but made things slightly worse for gamers.
-
MS will pay Ubisoft and Ubisoft will pay MS.
I’m sorry I’m slow today and I apologize for that does that mean whatever ABK games comes out after 2038 goes Xbox cloud streaming service and Ubisoft gets past, present, and future ABK on there service til 2038 meaning Ubisoft only has cloud streaming rights of ABK games til 2038 and then Xbox regains full control?
I believe the rights are in perpetuity. Ubisoft gets rights forever from all ABK games past released and future releases through 2038 then Xbox gets full rights for all future releases from there forward. Shows what Xbox thinks about streaming in the long term.
Thank you for helping me out so after 2038 Xbox has full control of ABK and can can choose to do whatever they want.
nope, unless they become a gaas, then maybe is possible.
Fair to say MS have really smart allies and for those, for some reason that escapes my mind, scared of the FTC:
While the FTC is appealing Microsoft’s trial win, the appeal doesn’t stand in the way of the deal closing.
Should MS have listen to us here or to their lawyers
The 10-days of trial prep and five-day trial were the culmination of months of work on the case. Microsoft brought in Wilkinson, a name partner at Washington DC-based Wilkinson Stekloff, shortly after the deal was announced in January 2022. While the FTC first challenged the deal in December 2022, the agency didn’t seek a federal court order blocking the merger until June.
“In terms of the unique preparation, I’ve never heard of a trial of that magnitude where you only had 10 days notice,” she said, adding that her team managed to get the documents and evidence to San Francisco, get the executives ready to testify and try the case during that span
Wilkinson, the woman who defeated the FTC
Coming into the case “she knew nothing about video games, nothing about the industry and within a week had an undeniable grasp” of it all, Kotick said. “She is incredibly capable of distilling complex facts into an easy to understand argument.”
That’s CoD only though.
I saw there were some updates today. Is this just going to mean more waiting and basically so much for having it finally end in August?
October is the endgame in general, but now CMA actually went for it to be the endgame date. Basically literally use all the time you have left before due date. Funny, it’s still before MW3 release. They must get it before then for their revenue to go big.
