Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT3| - Sony bends the knee!

But isn’t that literally why people play Battleroyal? Imo the only reason Battlefield isn’t more popular is poor decisions and not doing cross IP promotions/events(that I know of).

I feel it’s deeper than that because maps are too large for the game modes that are in BF. I think gunplay for the game is behind other shooters. Plus, the series fell off after Battlefield 4. I think BF games take longer to get into, which probably explains why it hasn’t in any moment threatened COD. I know they’re two different shooters, but I think battlefield doesn’t do enough to get people that want smaller scale battles.

Also, there’s a reason why the most entries sell at best 1/3 of a COD that was released in the same year. Anyways, that’s a series that has to go back to the drawing board and rediscover itself imo

We will see a lot of downplaying of Activision Blizzard games, rooting for opposing games (already happening with BG3 and starfield), a lot of revisionism like with Halo infinite which has become a failure now, campaign included. So much for wanting competition all these years. Haven’t heard them say Xbox has no games for a while. I guess people have moved on to Xbox a monopoly buying up all the big publishers.

Ice Cube went out of his way to acknowledge Microsoft. Are there any rumors of a Call of Duty Black Ops reboot? Maybe give him another track in the next Tony Hawk? NWA is also Rock Hall Famers now, maybe an appearance in the next Guitar Hero? The possibilities for synergy really open up with Activision now apart of Xbox :peace_symbol:

And people wonder how Microsoft handle ads with no ads.

They should either do a MW2019 job on BC/BC2/BF3/BF4

I feel this is more like, we can’t rely on outside work, and should do everything in house. Hopefully it also means they will not come up with a conclusion and then make up numbers to prove it like they had Lee do, because Microsoft went at them with facts and numbers and beat them.

If they extend the deal the money would only be due if they don’t close before the extended date

The article states that Microsoft offered the concession a month ago. The CMA and Microsoft wouldn’t have extended their deadline if they didn’t have grounds to work out a deal that satisfies the CMA’s concerns

Personally, I like that CAT is basically having another case management conference to confirm things. I really hope the CMA isn’t added in any of their acquisitions going forward as a global regulator. A system where BS can be made up is not worth it. https://twitter.com/i/status/1679994157421527040

Monday is nothing. It’s just a hearing to postpone or abandon cat proceedings.

There is obviously a deal with the cma. It’s just a question of process now. Is there a way the cma can see to let this close now or do they think it needs a few weeks so their processes look proper and give the impression they’ve stuck to their principles.

Also I think the times report is being misread. The cma have already confirmed they have received significant and detailed proposals.

Now, mind you, I don’t have any strong feeling about the closure of the deal other than what we all already know; that it will close.

But, MS just spent the entire week arguing during the appeals process the importance of denying the motions for relief by the FTC because of the importance of their impending termination date.

The optics of MS turning around, not closing before the termination date, and announcing an extension…would be…poor. To say the least.

I think things are in a good place but some of the expectations of an immediate close are unrealistic. It’s obvious that they would have acknowledged uncertainty with the dates and already have a plan in place with Activision.

Stuff has to work through the process, you can’t just say its our deadline were moving forward.

I really think this deal is being closed Monday or Tuesday, with either a formal interim nod from the CMA or Microsoft just profusely saying that they will absolutely finalize agreements with the CMA over the course of the next month to deal with UK regulator concerns.

Yeah but then they needed to clear the FTC out either way. To close or extend. I think they would prefer to obviously close by Tuesday but there isn’t a massive downside to waiting a few weeks. I think the CMA amending the final order is a compromise between them doing another full investigation taking a year and MS closing over them.

That honestly makes sense. They probably initially said they needed a few months, MS probably said ok we’ll just close anyway and the CMA said fine give us 6 weeks to save face and we’ll rubber stamp it.

I do wonder if Microsoft will try to bring World of Warcraft to consoles and if they would do it exclusively for Xbox, seems like it would be a smart thing to do because that franchise is huge and I bet that there’s a lot of console only players that know about the franchise but have never tried it due to the franchise being exclusive to PC.

This is real? :joy:

I do wonder as well didn’t they say something in court about meeting the deadline date. I know the FTC cited the CMA extension in their appeal. I also think it’s best to close by the 18th and deal with the rest later on.

Phil: “Hey Jim, we know you probably don’t want to market our own game for us, want us to just take it back and you can get 30% from each sale instead of 20%?”

Jim: “That sounds interesting but I think it would be best for gamers that we give you back the marketing and in exchange we get all Bethesda games on Playstation as well as every ABK game going forward, seems like a good deal to me”
