Activision Blizzard CEO Addresses Toxic Workforce Claims Amid Microsoft Deal - Variety
Latest interview with Kotick, ABK now has 17000 employees, grown from around 12500 when the deal was announced.
Microsoft (MSFT) is offering a âsmall and discreteâ divestiture to the UKâs Competition and Markets Authority that it believes the regulator will accept, according to CNBCâs David Faber, who cited sources. Itâs unclear what exactly the divestiture is. A deal could close as as soon as Monday, before a termination deadline for the mega deal.
It will be the Cloud element.
I wouldnât be surprised if they dropped it in the UK
Folks seem to think games will stay multiplatform, I saw this on a Dutch tech forum. People should realize thatâs CoD and everything that exists now.
New IP, I doubt that very much. Even a possible CoD spin off i can see being exclusive.
I think everything CoD including spin-offs will remain on everything Microsoft can put it on, I even think they wonât remove it after the 10 year deals are up, I donât think CoD will ever be exclusive. Also games already released/promised to PS5 will continue to get the same support as the Xbox version, including next-gen updates, like Diablo IV getting a PS6 update whenever that happens.
I do think they will make everything else exclusive, even something like Diablo V and Overwatch 3. I could be wrong though, this deal is unlike anything weâve ever seen before so its probably being looked at with a different set of rules by MS, only time will tell.
Wow thatâs a ton.
Thatâs such a weird remedy because it would give consumers less choice lol.
Glad things seem to be moving fast on this now. Hopefully MS/Xbox invests internally or on studios going forward. They donât need any more publishers and there are a number of studios Iâd much rather they invest in. It would also save us all from another year+ of tired conversations about what they will or wonât do.
Theyâll probably be able to get SEGA before they pass Sony in revenue but after then I think theyâll get a bunch of blowback, theyâll stick with single studios like IOI/ASOBO and so on.
They can do both and have been doing both as we speak, tons of teams have already grown.
So totally in line with what we would accept
We love screwing over our own people
MS has aggressively expanded basically every studio they own
Yeah, I donât know - maybe they looked at the capacity of Cloud in the UK (5k customers) and thought it wasnât worth it?
Maybe we get some news tomorrow/Thursday evening
I know and agree. Iâm just not a fan of them purchasing any more publishers. We know they are planning to acquire more, so I hope they turn their attention to just studios. Doubt itâll happen, but Iâd love for them to repair their relationship with Remedy and work something out there. Now that Embracer is in a tough spot after their deal fell through, maybe MS can buy Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal. All of that is more interesting to me than them targeting another publisher.
Yeah and I didnât say they didnât. Iâd prefer they focus on that and studio acquisitions is all Iâm saying.
How fast after Zenimax closed did they added the truckload of games?
Iirc, they added most of the games days after closing. Then, they added another wave of games in that yearâs Xbox Game Showcase.
I honestly think SEGA will be the last one, then theyâll focus on studios like you mentioned because with SEGA they will be very well rounded and the single studios like IOI will fill in small gaps.
New games in general, if a new Crash or Tony Hawk come out expect then to be exclusive
That being said I dont think we will see new games in existing IP until last 2027 anyway
In Phil email to Jim Ryan, Phil offered new games to existing franchises through 2027. But what would those have been?
The new Blizzard survival game, 100% expect it to be exclusive
PS5 got OW2, Crash Rumble and D4
In 2028 I expect ABK to announce new games in existing franchises like a new Spyro or Tony Hawk and theyâd be Xbox console exclusive
Iâm curious what the small divestiture is. I cant honestly think what it could be. They wonât divest xcloud or activision. So what are they offering? Clearly a face saver of some kind, but what is it?
