Ok….great gif usage haha, legit lol’d.
- Diablo 4 within a week or so launch.
- All ABKs library on gamepass
- World of Warcraft on Xbox
- I 100% think Odyssey would be exclusive. Won’t shock me if it’s shown at Xboxs conference and no platforms mentioned, especially with the acquisition still in flux.
This is such a closed minded way of thinking, with all due respect. It’s clear that due to the CMA’s weak arguments to block this merger, this deal effects more than just gaming at Microsoft. Effectively, the CMA’s decision this week has set up potential to block future Microsoft acquisitions, regardless of division, based on feelings and predictions.
While I doubt Microsoft would pull out of the UK, I will never rule it out. If they feel the CMA and by extension the UK is a threat to their way of doing business, they will need to consider all solutions.
Microsoft is big enough to cause a country to panic if they pull out, they are one of the few companies in the world that is essential to any government infrastructure in most countries around world. But they won’t do that because that would rally the world to try to break them up(so bad for business). What they can do is influence/lobby government officials and let them do the threatening(using the guise of protecting US interest which is true). The other thing is to build leverage somewhere else, like invest in other EU countries like Ireland or Poland instead of the UK.
Is Odyssey the Blizzard survival game or Infinity Ward’s rumored second game that isn’t COD?
Hopefully a mole inside the CMA will come clean and leak papers on how its nothing to do with Cloud LOL
Its be decades before the UK gets Gigabit Fibre around the country with BT Openreach
I’m not sure what the language rules are here but IMO it’s f*cking outrageous when an entertainment deal is subjected to so much handwringing & political interference. It’s a clown show & these regulatory agencies should be ashamed of themselves.
No one gives a cr*p about cloud gaming. The fact MS sees a future in it is entirely their own prerogative & if it’s ever successful down the line it’s because they’ve done it right. That’s literally the definition of good business.
According to the CMA’s grotesque block, all innovation & technological advances are prohibited from the moment the innovators & leading business who create these new markets profit from it. I mean with the CMA in charge ‘back in the old days’, it’s likely Windows could never have seen the light of day because they would have screamed ‘monopoly!’.
So yeah I fully expect MS to fight this current year regulatory ‘anti-big tech’ agenda.
Agreed, that’s why it’s going to get very political. If Microsoft can get government officials on their side (as they have against Sony/Japan recently), then a hypothetical ‘pulling out’ becomes a bigger threat - even if that is an unlikely outcome. Adding supporters from the EU and other countries could put further pressure on the UK/CMA and increase the threat.
So yes it’s a small chance of this happening but what happens if Microsoft tries to buy some else and regulators block on some made up argument.
Hows about this?
- CMA appeal fails.
- MS closes ABK anyway
- Microsoft issues statement…due to fees from UK government, in 90 days Microsoft will be pulling all its products from the UK and moving major businesses to Ireland.
Guarentee by day 7 the UK Government will overturn the CMA for a full clearing. They won’t pull out, but can threaten to do so.
Is that petty? 100%
Is it more petty than blocking the deal on cloud gaming?
Oh they definitely would fold.
You know what? As an Xbox fan… That sounds fucking awesome.
Microsoft should just lock down all coming major third party games for a year. If buying Activision is blocked, I just hope Microsoft goes all out and does what Sony does.
Infinitely more petty and downright stupid TBH….
Nobody at Microsoft or ABK entertains these fan fiction power fantasies. Regulators around the world would notice and sue Microsoft into oblivion.
Microsoft still has problems with regulators from the Gates days. Why would they want to be the bad guys again? It would only end in them beeing broken up, this time for real and with good cause.
Buyout the Space X program & start sending Xbox owners & MS employees to colonize Mars. Build an Xbox Empire on Mars, with loyal, faithful servants of the Microsoft Corporation. Create a literal Spartan army.
Invade earth, subjugate the regulators. Re-acquire Activision.
Ok now we’re talking lol….more of this.
They’ve been the good guys and been denied. Not en masse (at least not yet) but by one regulator with a habit of making errors.
The whole deal is best looked at from the point as a roughly 5 chance to pass. I understand why MS are not bailing. They are duty bound to try every avenue but I think even the higher ups over there know were this is heading.
The big question coming out of this is, what size of publisher will MS be allowed to buy in the future. For that, I have no answer.
They’re just going to successfully appeal the decision all these master plans are unecessary lol
