I’m curious how they came up with that conclusion. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say “Yep I’m getting GPU for xCloud.”
In fact, I am so confident I would bet my life that the biggest factor in people choosing GPU is for Xbox Live, followed by EA Play, and then the bundle of PC Game Pass.
Its a sham because they’ve either messed up the math or know its faulty and used it any way to base their decision on. Even if they contest it they will say “well the current market share isn’t relevant to how it will be in 10 years so we are still right!”
Microsoft went with ABK because they own IPs. EA license way to much stuff. NHL, NFL, Star Wars. Plus they might not be allowed to make any of that exclusive and they could pay a premium to put those games in gamepas day 1.
I never said they would make everything exclusive though. Yes, a good portion of EA’s output is licensed, but the majority of it is yearly sports titles. Having those in the service day one each and every year would be huge to attract the casual market. I would also add, when it comes to sports titles, most gamers move on to the latest title in the series. Very few bother to go back to play older sports titles unless it’s something nostalgic like NHL '94.
Also, neither of the license holders listed are oppose to allowing their licenses on subscription services day one. For example, EA Play Pro on PC already includes Madden, FIFA and Jedi Survivor day one.
Regardless, the main point I was making was that if the main driving factor of the ABK acquisition was Game Pass, then in my opinion there are other publishers that would have been a better fit (EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, etc.).
“Fast growing” my ass, I would love to see the numbers, these clowns had to be corrected when it came to the console concerns, wouldn’t be surprising if they fuc ked this up too.
The majority of parties were for the sale. Even Nvidia who initially was concerned about it changed their tune on getting Microsoft and ABK games for Geforce now.
The CMA doesnt care about the dozen parties who benefit from this deal or the 100s of million of gamers. Given they are supposed to protect competition and consumer benefits, they fucked up.
CoD on gamepass? Gone
Apple/Play Store competitor? Gone
Call of Duty on Switch? Gone
MS games on Gforce Now? Gone.
Unions? Gone
For what? Something in 2033 that might never happen?
They only care about making up reasons to suit their agendas.
Agreed. I’ve long stated that my believe was the ABK deal was mobile, PC, Game Pass, and then Xbox console. Most of the ABK output was going to remain multiplatform, and while MS would prefer to have the entirety of the ABK catalog exclusive to Game Pass, they were not opposed to offering up COD to PS Plus (even though it was more or less calling Sony’s bluff).
Spencer told staffers that Microsoft President Brad Smith was up at 2 a.m. Seattle time Wednesday drafting a response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority. He said Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood, who oversees acquisitions, held a senior leadership meeting the same day.
Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Kotick was quick to say that both companies were working to appeal the UK regulator’s decision, which he described as an “irrational” move. "I think the appeals process will work in our favor.”
