But the press release is off base in the following respects:
- The organization says that Microsoftâs acquisition of Activision Blizzard King "will undermine the vitality of an important sector of the American economy and consolidate the video game industry into a small group of firms who control walled gardens of content, data, and advertising."That is ridiculous because the video game industry is fragmentedâand will be post-merger. The numbers such as the Herfindahl-Hirschman index, which is computated based on the distribution of market shares in a given industry, just donât support the American Economic Liberties Projectâs claim.
The press release also says that â[t]he right response to one set of monopolies â Apple and Google â is not to further entrench another monopoly â Microsoft â to fight them.â First, itâs nonsensical to warn against âentrench[ing] another monopoly.â What market? If there is any market in which Microsoft has huge market power, itâs certainly none of the markets in which Activision Blizzard King is active

Not a single word on Microsoft allowing unions, both in the future at ABK and currently at Zenimax/Bethesda. This reads as someone who is so twisted up about social reform that they are willing to throw people under the bus to get their way how they think it should be, instead of accepting the progress being made in the system.

I get that with ten years, they will still have to play nice with Xbox within those ten years or Xbox could decide not renew that arrangement, however if they stopped being nasty in the first place it wonât be a problem!

Regardless of what happens, COD will end up on Playstation. Thereâs no way Sony will forego all of that revenue and the same applies to MS.
Yeah, probably but if im Microsoft and Sony doesnât want to agree to the deal, then I would tell them to go fuck themselves. Besides, with every other platform having the game, it wouldnât matter if PlayStation doesnât because the vast majority of those who play COD on PlayStation will easily jump to one of the other 5 or so platforms that would have COD.
Iâm sure if things donât go Sonyâs way and the acquisition goes through, MS will still offer them the 10 year deal and theyâll take it.
Iâll admit it would be hilarious if Sony balked at the deal and tried to play hard ball and MS just walks away. I think Playstation fans would finally chase Jim Ryan out of SOA HQ.
