Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

Called it.

This is the silver bullet for MS to get the deal approved on the UK and EU

If companies including Sony, Amazon and Nvidia want to pay to have COD in their service then let them, its just more $ for MS

Either way only benefits MS.

Because it calls Sonys bluff? Sony is not going to pay the astronomical prices it costs to have CoD day one on PS+, and not only that, it undermines their whole business model.

This is like when Sony said CoD will be removed from PlayStation in the short term and Microsoft then offered a 10 year contract to which Sony denied to sign even though Nintendo and Steam did.

Calling their bluff.

Yep

This along with offering CoD on other cloud services are the two big logical “concessions” they can do that I figured they would

They’ve already done the first so we will see if they work on the cloud aspect also

There is no limit. I think for MS its all about mobile and Cloud.

I’m saying why as to the absurdity of the situation…

Where’s my destiny on GamePass each year with all expansions?

Sony wouldnt be able to afford COD nor do they have the infrastructure to support it as they themselves have admitted this

Also MS doesnt need the FTC approval because the FTC doesnt approve deals, they either happen or they sue to block

Also the rest of your post is just nonsense…the FTC doesnt give a crap about Sony or ehat they have to say,

Microsoft has to pay for that. It probably cost them an arm and a leg to have it on the service when it did and that was just one year.

Sony doesnt put Destiny itself on its own sub service with expansion to be fair

You know Destiny is a very expensive IP to develop and maintain more so than any other Sony game.

Because Microsoft is a big tech company and they are coming under scrutiny.

It is what it is but they are required to get the deal approved, so not much can be done.

Nah, they can just close unless the FTC files in federal court. All they have to do is ammend their agreement. If the suit is filed in federal court, if the judge even accepts ftc case, it is over in months.

Yes they can just close. But the FTC can sue and even though Microsoft should win. There is a chance they can lose if the FTC get the right Judge. Anything can happen as we have seen the past few years.

Yes, but then there are appeal processes. The chance the FTC would continuously get the right judge and a favorable ruling at the supreme court is low. In fact the supreme court would probably love a case to strip the ftc of section 5.

Heck, that fight would likely go on through more than one administration so theyd need to also have multiple administrations in favor of continued pursuit of that divestment.

What’s next? Sony keeps marketing rights for 10 years and Playstation cod advantage?

If its a choice of closing and the FTC sueing and winning vs. having to wait it out and lose anyway because the FTC is being obtuse, I say close… Worse that can happen is MS gets $65B back.

100%. Making Call of Duty available to anyone who wants to add it to their service (at market value) is a win win in my book. They ease regulators concerns on all points (Call of Duty, subscriptions services and cloud services) and for the most part it should be too prohibitively expensive (even at market value) to really have a significant effect. And if someone DOES decide to take up this offer in some capacity - it’s just more money for Microsoft and no matter what game pass will still be the best place to play Call of Duty - with day one releases, the entire back catalogue and additional game pass perks as well.

I mean what’s the worst that happens - Sony decides that they want Call of Duty on PS+ day one, gives Microsoft HUNDREDS of millions of dollars to do so and ensures that even more people play the game and spend money on dlc and microtransactions - and game pass still remains the best place to play Call of Duty.

Saying all of that though - I think Sony probably know all of this and will continue to refuse to sign the deal. They think they can block the deal and they’re not going to back down. This does serve as a sign of good faith to regulators however, a sign of willingness to make further concessions to get the deal through and for us it shows that Microsoft isn’t looking to walk away from this deal any time soon.

Sony were never going to say yes

They used the CoD/PS+ as their excuses to the regulators but this is MS calling their bluff, now their concerns to regulators become or at least should become irrelevant and don’t have a leg to stand on

This is a long play for Microsoft, they will own the Call of Duty IP, Diablo, Warcraft, Crash, StarCraft, all the tech, and tons of other things. Call of Duty on PlayStation forever is worth it and even if it came to the deal being done or not offering Call of Duty on other subscription services is worth it if it gets the deal over the line.

Nothing will change for us, well the marketing deal will come to Xbox and we’ll get the all the early access and xp stuff and it forever be on Game pass without question. Yes Microsoft shouldn’t have to do that but, it’s probably best we all come to terms with that possibility. Also yes it seems like Xbox has to always bow to others and always take hits and so on but with these deals in place it won’t be like that much longer.

Call of Duty revenue alone could probably fund half of XGS as well, it could fund money hats, projects you’ll never thought would be done and so on.

Ho guys, what’s up? I don’t know if you agree with me or not but i think this could be the best move to reach the approval. I mean, Sony could spend a lot of milions to have COD on its subscription service and It would be a probably refuse. But on the MS’s side they Will Say: i offered to Sony what they’re asking for but they have refused.

I still don’t like where Microsoft is going with that deal because it is clear that they are offering more and more unjustifiable concessions to a point where they might even allow marketing rights lol
