Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

The US should be implementing tariffs on UK tech effective immediately, but the current leadership is weak.

Corrupt and I bet the topp brass kids of the CMA are playstation fans .

Hope the other regulators clear the deal, eveb if it means a Activision game can never be sold in the UK or on the Xbox/PS uk store fronts

Not into politics but I do agree.

Unfortunately I don’t see what they can do with regulators ready to do anything to ruin the agreement. It’s a shame that the CMA decided to block this for such a ridiculous reason as the cloud. With this decision, the CMA is turning its back on unionization, good working conditions for employees, players, and competition in the industry. They are determined to block this for whatever reason. Even if Microsoft wins in court, I doubt that the CMA will change its mind and I fear that Europe will come and bury the deal next month. It’s so unfair what’s happening, and I think it calls into question a lot of things about the power of these authorities. I am very pessimistic for the future.

It’s really hard to see it in any other way. The idea they don’t understand the industry just doesn’t float. This seems more deliberate than anything.

What a day huh. Everyone was confident that this gonna pass and now we need to wait like… a year? And is not sure anymore if the EC will approved

Come on now. This is becoming ridiculous. Xbox isn’t closing down because an opportunistic merger might be blocked. Let’s get some perspective. Some of this doom and gloom stuff is crazy.

Funny thing about cma blocking this they have stalled cloud gaming growth. I could be wrong but activision aren’t big fans of cloud gaming

Phil says: “Xbox won’t die if deals fails”

When the deal sounds it will fail

Doom Gloomer: “2 years xbox will be third party dev”

Doesn’t make sense bro

They have literally harmed dozens of company’s and only protected an Apple, Google duopoly and a market leader in Sony.

Cloud gaming may never develop. The CMA logic is beyond reason. The CMA very clearly made a decision before analysis and their analysis doesn’t support the argument.

Another year of this bullshit won’t do Xbox any favours though.

Of course the doom n gloom is stupid, but the amount of negative shit around Xbox this deal has brought is not great.

Some of us also suspected Xbox was holding a lot of things back to let this deal go through smoother by appearing weak, will that also continue? Or maybe that isn’t the case at all.

Disportionate definitely. PF had option of divesting parts of ABK and also behavioral. How does a reduction in SLC warrant the harshest remedy.

Because the CMA used a theoretical future harm based on a nascent market I think people should be prepared for this ride to get a little… wild in the coming months & years ahead.

I think some radical possibilities are on the table. MS clearly isn’t happy with the CMA’s extra-territorial reach, basically. It means the UK itself must be viewed within a modern context.

I’ve already said this twice but I they were or could’ve been hiding stuff because of the console concerns they wouldn’t be hiding stuff because of cloud concern, meaning I don’t think they’ll hold anything back game wise going on from now.

Microsoft announcing a new Banjo game, Fallout 5 and others wouldn’t really do anything about cloud concern because all their theories are ifs and maybes.

Yeah, the 10 year deal was actually going to benefit cloud gaming since many providers can use the Microsoft/ABK carrot to get people to try their service. Now the smalller plays that worked a deal with MS are in a much worse position since they’ll lose out on a bunch of games
