Disney + Fox? No problem. Sony’s monopoly on animated streaming and anti-competitive practice in the gaming market? No problem. Xbox, the 3rd player in the market, wants to acquire ABK, which will always place it behind the Asian competition? “No, but the Cloud, you know…”. Come on Phill it’s time to stop playing the nice guy and play the same game as Sony and Jimbo. Buy exclusives and block PlayStation with your billions. Obviously that’s the way to play.

Microsoft will fight this massively because if this is the precedent, Microsoft would struggle to buy anyone else because they could just go “well no because you’re the market leader in cloud sorry” to pretty much anyone big or small.

It’s of course ridiculous but unless people are insanely naïve, such decisions like blocking a 70 billion dollar deal are always political in nature as well.
In hindsight, dropping the console concerns let Sony off the hook as well, i.e. the CMA’s block is no longer about Sony successfully lobbying them but instead it’s hidden behind some sort of ‘cloud gaming’ argument which suggests Sony isn’t at all the reason why this was torpedoed in the UK.
When we all know it really has been killed because of Sony. It’s a dirty business but Xbox has no choice other than to go onwards & upwards.
It’s time to get insanely aggressive towards PlayStation though & others as well. Playing ‘nice’ hasn’t really been a winning strategy so far.

If this is were antitrust law is heading, things are going to get ugly especially when we are competing with the likes of China, Russia, Saudi Arabia etc. We are constantly shooting ourselves on the foot, for what? I don’t think they need to hide anymore even if they appeal it’s just cloud stuff they’ll need to worry about, them announcing a new partnership with X company isn’t going to bring on any concern with cloud
Screw Nintendo users also. No COD for them. CMA is a total joke. Blocking over cloud gaming which is like less then 1 percent of gaming. If their reason make sense fine, but this is a total BS to the max.
