On topic: MS last deadline to abandon the deal is on the 18th (next tuesday). They are supossed to recieve the BPR this week so they either already got it or they will tomorrow…do you think MS basically got the thumbs up with the CMA’s BPR if by the 18 they havent abandon the deal?
Politicians and all that, but I thought this was funny. I would be shocked if Sony expected this level of scrutiny against their own business. I can’t imagine that Sony Corp. is all too happy at the moment.
Also, I can’t help but be reminded of that scene in The Dark Knight when the accountant tries to blackmail Batman/Wayne Enterprises and Lucius Fox says “… and your plan is to blackmail this person? Good luck!”
Accusing Sony of lobbying the FTC, also wants details on acquisition of Bungie. Will future US acquisitions be more difficult? Will be interesting to see what comes out of this. Regardless, eyes are now finally on Sony and their practices.
I don’t think something major will come out of this. But its certainly inconvenient for Sony. It will grab some of their attention and they will have to pay more lawyers.
Nothing wrong with them having a monopoly on their home turf. The issue is leveraging that to create unfair advantages on their home turf. Those exclusionary clauses are brutal they put in place and they are going to be pressed hard.
I dont see scenarios where Sony will be able to continue such practices with such scrutiny. Id also expect any Sony acquisition in Japan to be heavily challenged to block or provide the content fully multiplatform.
