Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

I really would love it if Sonys behaviour blew up in their faces. I can’t see it happening but how sweet would it be if one of the regulators did decide to take a look at them?

All this. People believed a pack of lies. But we have our sovereignty and can continue to make our own decisions to ensure we stay poorer. It’s fantastic….if you are completely stupid. For everyone else it’s dreadful. The EU do everything better than we do.

UK’s membership in the EU was much more privileged compared to the continental member states, if UK were to rejoin the Union, it would be unlikely to be on such favorable terms as before. Still would love to see it, we’re stronger together after all.

Sure. We had the best deal. And threw it away. Won’t get that back. No chance of rejoining for a long time.

I am assuming that it wouldn’t really work that way with regulators just looking at things on their own for the Sony related things, but man if Microsoft somehow gets this thing blocked still then Sony better watch out that Microsoft doesn’t decide to file some anti-competitive related lawsuits in whatever venues because it sure seems that there is very legitimate evidence that the market leader Sony has done exactly that. The irony of that being a real possibility here is crazy when we are still talking about whether this deal should go through because it might somehow harm the market leader that has been doing those types of practices. Just wow.

As someone that has to travel to the UK… and needs to pay for a freakin tourist visa. I hope so.

Could of told people that who pinned their hopes on her ‘reigning in Big Tech.’ She can make things more difficult for them sure, but if they want fundamental changes then it has to come from Congress and not pin your hopes on the FTC.

The Meta case was a giant L for her.

Should have tried to get good concessions instead of abusing her power

This combined with FTC employees seemingly being miserable with her in charge, I wont be sad to see her go

Lina dug her on hole, because she lost reasonability. I agree 100% that big techs needs to be firmly regulated, but this not mean to wage a holy wars against them. In the case of ABK, 99% of publisher are ok with the deal, union and workers want the deal, gamers in general want the deal, MS is fine with concession and strong compliance. FTC sue this deal for the sake of saying no because of big tech, with very weak legal base, also playing dirty and abusing power. For this kind of behavior, that may end up harming the gaming market, yes, she and the whole FTC deserves the heat.

We need a competent FTC, but Lina Khan is an idealogue with an agenda. She shouldn’t be in her position, so I’m glad she’s getting heat from everybody including her own subordinates.

I’m still baffled that they were trying to hide away by stating the documents are in Japanese so no can do.

Sony should have gone with ‘our dirty laundry is the size of Jupyter and it’s in everyone’s interest not to bring it out in the public’, they’d at least sound believable.

I hope the FTC, American courts and European Regulators are watching Sony drag their heels on presenting these documents. They’ve kicked up a huge fuss and made themselves a linchpin of the efforts to block the deal. I’d say regulators have spent an enormous amount of time and money listening to and building arguments and cases around information Sony gave them… Which they now won’t disclose the context around.

I hate analogies… But when a little kid runs up to you and claims another child pushed them but won’t tell you what happened… it’s usually for a reason.

A company not wanting to produce these records is normal. They’d always fight it regardless of the content. Are they sealed? If so we won’t ever see what was in them. Were this reversed MS would fight just as hard. Nobody, I mean nobody wants to offer this info up regardless.

Of course they don’t want to give any info, tha’ts natural but they made the bed they are currently in and the argument’s they’ve used are just plain bad, so of course people are gonna shit on them for it

None of this matters. The fact is Sony is going to be exposed for how hypocritical they are.

It’s one thing for Sony to tell CADE (Brazil, who shut them down) that if Microsoft owns ABK they might have Xbox exclusive perks or incentives for CoD (therefore it’s “bad for competition”), and yet Sony themselves currently do this with CoD and many other games without even owning them AS WE SPEAK, harming Xbox over generations.

It’s another thing to have the actual documents and contracts showing Sony being hypocritical and very possibly engaging in anti-competitive nature (i.e., stiffling Game Pass growth with paying to keep other games off the service ala Resident Evil 8; Microsoft stated Sony pays to keep games off Game Pass, plural, for a reason).

We all know lawyers will be lawyers, but the massive hypocrisy is bewildering. Us gamers already know what it is but now the literal contracts will be shown to regulators, and hopefully leaked to all like Epic v Apple.

I get that being purposefully contrarian is your schtick, but this ain’t it.

Will the regulators see them though? Or just the lawyers and judge for the FTC case?

I agree. That the thing is here that Sony have shot themselves in the foot. But they get away with it if this thing is blocked. If it’s not then they have made a right mess of it.
