Machine Games and id Software to team up for a "Revitalization of the Quake Franchise" a scoop by Xbox Era

Do any of you people that think this is a bad move actually care about this remaster and have any interest in discussing it? So much time and energy spent on list wars and so little on actual gaming.

I’m just sitting here waiting for the download button to appear so I can press it furiously.

To be fair, we all know Unreal Tournament was the better game.

I’ve played quite a lot of Unreal Tournament at LAN Parties back in the day. We never really bothered with Quake.

The only things that really matter to me regarding this apparent remaster of an old game is whether it is Day One on Xbox Game Pass as expected and that Xbox be properly prepared to answer questions regarding the multiplatform release just to help avoid too much cluster because honestly I don’t really care if this remaster is elsewhere. I would question it much more if a true reboot of the IP ended up on other platforms of course, which is why being ready to answer questions is important.

This will only create fake outrage later and sends mixed messaging. Also not sure how effective a Quake remaster of all things, will convince people to invest in the Xbox ecosystem later.

My initial reaction to this leak was “F*** yeah! Quake!”, and then it was “Oh, people are going to be mad about this aren’t they?”. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I seriously can’t wait to play this and I love that a lot of these older games are finally getting remastered/re-released. Recently there was news that even Powerslave was getting remastered. Now we just need Heretic and a host of other great 90’s FPS’s.

Where’s that “ignore” button again…

Guys Phil Spencer has been saying for years he wants to see Game Pass on every platform possible including Playstation and Nintendo. You need to start looking at Xbox exclusives in the same way you do with HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu, and Shudder exclusives now so when Phil inevitably works out some kind of deal to get Game Pass on Playstation and Nintendo consoles you’re not losing your mind.

It’s like Apple having a dedicated Apple TV box while also having a Apple TV+ streaming service available on multiple devices. That model is the way forward for Xbox and Phil has been saying it for a long time now. It may not happen for a long while but understand like everything Phil says he’s saying it for a reason. If that strategy bothers you you need to start your 7 stages of grief now and get it out of your system because that’s where we’re headed.

Agree - I want to see how many play this 25 year old game.

I get the argument about optics and such.

Quake 3 is better out of other arena shooters.

But I remember that Unreal the campaign right? Like Unreal and Unreal 2

Gawd - you are starting another microtribe? Quake v Unreal wars are back! LOL

Unreal Tournament easily outclassed Q3.

But well Netflix exclusives, Hulu exclusives etc. don’t appear on other platforms. Hell, “legacy” Disney aside, Disney also doesn’t release new stuff (ok mostly) on other streaming platforms.

The war never left, it just lay dormant in the hearts of gamers everywhere. War… war never changes. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Well, Unreal Tournament had vehicles. But Quake 3 was more intense. Also those crazy jumps.

Now that I think about, Quake vs UT reminds me of CoD vs Battlefield. And CS is somewhere

Hey guys, Quake’s about to be annou- oh…R

EDIT: Real talk: I think a re-release of a quarter-century old game HAS to be on everything under the Sun. How many modern (under 25) gamers even know what Quake is?

These threads are the wastelands that you see in the Fallout game.

I didn’t start anything. I’m just trying to keep absolutely outrageous takes in check.

Besides there is not a lot better to discuss right now. Or do you want my take on Xbox imminent downfall, initiated by remastering a 25 year old game on the Switch?

Ok, ok, instead of arguing whether or not it releasing on everything is bad (it’s not), or Quake v Unreal (Quake, duh), can’t we just be happy that Quake is finally playable on modern consoles?
