Layoffs at Microsoft hit 343 industries and Bethesda Games Studios

Could they hand off campaign duties to a partner studio? eg in Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch worked on the MP modes while Raven made the campaign.

There was no need for an open world campaign. Who asked for it?.

Time to come to grips with Halo not receiving anymore campaign content until the next game.

After Halo 5 campaign, anything would have been better lol.

I just think they need to split it up. Have all the MP-stuff use Infinite as a platform, and make good Halo SP games (with co-op at launch…) themselves or give it to someone else who can make games without all the things that sunk Infinite like MP, Forge, live service etc. It’s too much to do all of that over and over again every time you make a Halo game.

Definitely think Infinite’s incomplete release was another nail in the full package release coffin, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they went this direction.

All they have to do is copy halo 1-3 with better graphics. Don’t even need to change the gameplay. Since it’s already good. All this extra stuff was not needed. I also prefer the old physics.

If they seperate single player and continue to release campaigns while supporting Infinite as the multiplayer component is that substancially different from what we were already expecting them to do by adding additional campaigns to Infinite? Seems like they’d be doing the same thing just packaging it differently.

Why not just remake Halo 1-3 at that point? Can’t really move the story forward if they are stuck in the past. The Campaign in Infinite is not the problem, for me it’s the best campaign since Reach.

It can be very different yeah, not least because it would be prioritized. With a focused second studio on singleplayer, 344i or something, it would be a lot more efficient and not depending on the other parts in any way. If it was taken a step further and spreading the IP out outside of the studio that would have insane possibilites for Halo games.

And how. Some of the takes in this thread are so extreme.

I swear i’ve seen tamer concern trolling.

At the moment its #21 in Xbox Lives most played (USA). Its beating Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Flight Sim, High on Life, Deathloop, etc. Most of which arent even in the top 50 (yet still gaining millions of players)

Anyone who claims its not popular or a flop is straight up bullshitting.

I don’t know I just think this is a move in the wrong direction. Halo needs more devs not less. The reason Halo didn’t took off they way everyone expected is because they didn’t have enough content. And you only get that with more people working on it. Halo has only a fraction of the workforce like CoD or any other big triple A Game. Yet everyone expects this game to be as big.

But surely those three week-contractors will be enough?

about 343i, i think months later they will hire more people

343 needed to do what Bungie did during those recent years.

Instead they’re going the opposite direction.

It’s just sad.

I’m curious to know what it is.

We just heard something from our sources, this may come as a huge shock to the halo community

We’ll have to do our usual checks before sharing it publicly.

But if it’s true and true…

It honestly has the potential to be as much of one as the other [positive or negative], that’s why we really have to do our research and verification work before announcing it.

Man i would hate if they give Halo to another studio. That would be like giving up.

I dunno i’m not sure I really see the practical difference here - if they started a secondary studio to work on the campaigns there seems no reason they couldn’t just have that team internally as they currently do. Unless they’re planning an engine switch or something it basically still boils down to having sufficient staff to make campaign content that’ll either release as part of Infinite or with a different label :man_shrugging: I mean, I guess from a public perception perspective it could help?

Terrible news about the layoffs…

Also really surprised to see Staten leaving 343 and joining again XBGP, he seemed really excited working on Halo again after all those years and most notably the future of the Infinite’s (planned I guess) campaigns.

I guess now isn’t a bad time to restructure 343 and finally decide what they want to do with this team and of course Halo, with the plethora of 1st party content from Xbox in the next years Halo won’t have to carry the generation/console…hopefully it all works out for 343 and Halo in the end.
