Well the numbers dont lie. But yeah lets talk about sales metrics…for free games.
Humans are emotional creatures. If they take the emotional part out of it, they would see that workers especially in big tech, get hire and fire, move around all the time, rarely do they stay at one place for a very long time. Only the upper people stay for long.
I got a question, but not sure if anyone can know the answer to that.
Could this have consequences for Game Pass, the budget? Could January (so far) being so unusual have anything to do with this, or really not at all?
I don’t think it’ll impact the average gamers experience.
Gaming division still remains a top priority for MS, that hasn’t changed.
By all indications, the layoffs are because of the looming recession, it’s not due to MS changing its stance on gaming.
Who knows but I doubt it
This is overhiring from the pandemic and now that things have went to absolute shit with the economy they are trimming what they can, things that weren’t performing what they needed to
Gaming is still a massive growth sector for them, hence the ABK purchase
Unfortunately the Forge update did not move the needle into the numbers.
No. It’s a separate issue altogether. The pandemic, while technically Covid and its variants are forever here, is over in a way. New normal is formed, some old tradition has returned. This was bound to happen due to many other factors, but Game Pass isn’t all the sudden going to downgrade severely.
And please stop using 10k+ people losing their jobs to make this some sort of gotcha about Halo.
There are 3 studios (343, Certain Affinity, Skybox labs) working on the ongoing MP, it has a popular TV show with it’s second season in development, and battle Royale in development.
Halo is fine.
But in this situation, knowing all this, it shouldn’t even be a point of discussion. Halo should be the last thing on people’s minds.
I guess that 4chan rumour of Phil leaving soon, Satya being unhappy with results and Xbox shutting down were true
jeez what a shitshow
Edit: I’m obviously joking don’t ban me
Nothing is really gone to move the needle majorly at this point. Unless that rumor BR Mode blows people away? nothing will.
Halo found a niche audience of like 5-10k daily players, they won’t be doing no over 100k daily like Apex or PUBG or Fortnite for example. Halo days as the go to shooter is over, we have to admit it.
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of people surprised that forge didn’t just FIX Halo’s player count, it was never going to. Consistent good quality updates and time is the only thing that will fix the playercount. Forge was just the first step towards that.
I imagine to be fair it is less about cutting staff on the campaign side and more about not cutting staff on the multiplayer side where they NEED to get content out faster and more consistently.
Yeah, Activision represented just how serious they were taking their gaming divisions and that has not changed. I believe just as of today (or thereabouts) the amount it would cost Microsoft to walk away from the deal increased by another half a billion, if Microsoft were getting cold feet they wouldn’t be standing firm on this.
I have a hard time believing there are only 5-10k daily players on Halo. Mind you, I am not saying it has a big concurrent player base as of now, but I don’t think it is as low as you are suggesting.
Halo Infinite losing all hope for more singleplayer content by the looks of it sucks. The campaign was a 9/10 and I enjoyed it a lot. The rest was not great.
I’m not too surprised though, Halo Infinite has been so far down the most played charts its silly. I however blame this on everything but the singleplayer. Proper Halo campaigns will still have a good pull factor for Xbox and Game Pass.
Yeah, don’t think they will stick to the Infinite as a platform plan for the singleplayer stuff at the very least.
We don’t know for console but on Steam it around 5k daily, give or take.
Hopefully they focus on singleplayer sequels, either in house or better just give it to someone else. Infinite can continue to be the MP-stuff.
MP side will be supported for now, but any single-player DLC plans are scrapped for sure.
They’re only counting steam numbers.
I think there will be an entirely new campaign, but not anytime soon obviously.
