Are people just now realizing this is business? As a business when you have a product that fails as badly as halo did, unless you want to risk sinking in more money to have the slimmest of hope that it might bounce back, which it wont, you just start cutting your losses.
Taking employees away from bethesda though? I donāt know about that and cannot comment because Iām far from an expert.
btw Staten is still on Xbox but not in 343, maybe he still will help 343 but indirectly
It depends, I think itās fairer to look at it from a headcount perspective, if despite the layoff, Bethesda is operating at a higher headcount than being independent, so itās still a positive thing.
Whatever happen to Halo, just donāt force other Studio and Devs onto Halo like this man here is suggesting.
Another horrible take by Ryan.
Damn TolerLive is gone too
I dunno, Iād be happy to see other teams at Xbox have the option to make non-mainline Halo titles if they wanted to Itād be interesting to see more collaboration like that across other Xbox IPs. As a take this is fine, but I think the timing is pretty poor.
I rather Quake and more Doom and less Halo. Thatās me though.
With the above post in mind - something to take note of here is that Jason Schreier and others are only reporting what they can personally verify and that relies on having sources. He can report on what is happening at 343 specifically because he has sources there, something we know because heās been able to report on internal matters at 343 in the past.
Iāve seen people suggest that other teams, such as Playground, are unaffected today but I wouldnāt take a lack of reporting so far as evidence of anything.
Not that I am wishing it does happen (far from it), but these layoffs are supposed to take effect over the course of Q3 FY23. Donāt be surprised to see other devs being laid offā¦
I just donāt get why they would remove Staten and put him back with Xbox Game Publishing. He was a calming figure for the community to rally behind I think a lot of Halo fans were willing to overlook Infiniteās shortcomings cause they knew Joe was cooking
Hopefully it is because the new team they put in place has things under control. Hopefully lol.
To be honest, I think Staten left on his own because he didnāt want to deal with the Halo community. If he did, no blame here, the Halo community is just awful.
I can hope but I highly doubt it they axed a ton of senior campaign designers. I donāt have much faith in the next campaign which is a shame cause the campaign in Infinite while flawed is easily the part of the game that held up to expectations and was viewed as a win for Halo
Am I crazy or has he said this before? Halo is going to live and die with 343.
Doubt we will get an answer for a very long time. I donāt think he ever said he was staying for the long term. However he was bringing in former Bungie talent back into the studio like Paul Bertone, so I think that signaled to everyone that he wasnāt going anywhere. But maybe this was always the plan for him to eventually leave.
Thatās a bummer and doesnāt bode well for campaign dlc
Iām expecting for Infinite to be abandoned after season 3 the battle royale will be moved to the next Halo game
Thatās be crazy because I donāt think we getting a next Halo game anytime soon. The battle Royale should be pretty far along.
If anything they can release it standalone.
